From Jerusalem to Masada!
Monday, October 29, 2012

We had an amazing, and almost overwhelming day! It was our longest day but filled with incredible moments.

We began with Qumran and a visit to the site of the discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls. It is a fascinating place and astonishing to think that these scrolls were hidden there for so very many years. It whetted all of our appetites for the exhibit that is coming to Cincinnati.

After a walk through Ein Gedi, we arrived at Masada. No matter how many times you visit, the story us astonishing and the views compelling. It is no easy feat with wheelchairs and walkers but we are undaunted by such mundane obstacles!

At the top of Masada, in a beautiful, and thankfully shady, spot, we held a very special event. On this, Stan and Marjorie Zeidman's 62nd wedding anniversary, they renewed their vows in a moving ceremony. Under the tallit that Stan used at his Bar Mitzvah 72 years ago, Rabbi Walter chanted the blessings and we all watched their beaming faces.

Lunch at a Dead Sea resort included a delicious anniversary cake in their honor and we all went knot the Dead Sea and enjoyed floating in that buoyant water.

That probably sounds like a full day but it was not over yet--we headed back to Jerusalem and were the honored guests at a celebration concert of the Ankor Choir. These incredible young women wowed us at Cedar Village this summer and it was a joy to be with them again!

Tomorrow we head North!
