Community Celebrates with Contest and Song
Community Life today was full of founding spirit! Student representatives were chosen from each grade to participate in a founding week trivia game, including questions such as "what was the school's very first name?" - it was North County Day School. The seniors won a grade-level pizza party for having the most correct answers. Afterwards, faculty held a mock Harkness discussion and broke out into a founding week-themed version of Journey's Don't Stop Believing. Dr. Wright and Dr. Rosenwong had rocking solos (violin and electric guitar, respectively) and students all joined in at the end! Think you might know the answers to the quiz? Click here!
Dr. Ogle hosts the trivia quiz.

A Million Knots Fashion Show Raises Nearly $10,000 for Girls' Education in India
Students in the service learning group A Million Knots turned the athletic center into a catwalk Friday night, all for a good cause. Nearly 300 people attended Rajasthan Rising on March 3 to help raise funds for girls' education in India. After a delicious dinner prepared by Bombay Coast, attendees heard from speakers representing Project Concern International, WomanCare Global and the service learning group Liberty in North Korea. The show was powered by service learning group Alternative Energy Sources and other service groups were on-hand to spread awareness of different causes. Notes of Hope and On Pointe entertained audiences and then a dozen Pacific Ridge students modeled student-designed outfits inspired by Indian culture. Funds will continue to support the A Million Knots School in Rajasthan and a vocational school in New Delhi.
The fashions were modern takes on traditional Indian styles.
A Million Knots group leaders (from left) Aliya Abudawas '18, Paige Hellinger '17, Mirai Patel '17, Madeline Forgey '18 and Emily Regnery '19 spearheaded the event.
Seniors Wax Nostalgic at 100-Day Dinner
March 7 marked an important milestone for members of the Class of 2017 - only 100 days from that date remain before Commencement and the end of their time at Pacific Ridge. Seniors and faculty celebrated the day with a festive dinner in the West Reading Room. Students reminisced, broke out in song and even rolled the Reading Room piano in for an impromptu performance! After the dinner, the class cheered a slideshow that paired baby pictures of each senior with amusing photos from their teenage years.

Middle School Students Learn About Algebra's Beginnings
During the Middle Ages, Baghdad was a flourishing intellectual center for mathematical development. To complement the middle schoolers study of the Islamic Revolution, Ms. Zerlaut and Ms. Mudaliar's math classes did an exercise in radial symmetry which is predominant in Islamic Art. Working with a compass and ruler, students created tessellations which represent the infinite nature of Allah. Their unique artwork complements their reading of Persepolis in English.

Bilingual Spark Session Speaker Shares Exciting Stories
Carnations and roses may not sound dangerous, but business owner Frank Biddle has plenty of exciting stories to share about his dealings in Colombia, Honduras and El Salvador, where he sources flowers. Students took part in the first ever foreign language SPARK session on March 1 at which Mr. Biddle, a Pacific Ridge parent, spoke with students in Spanish about his experience traveling extensively through South America for his flower business. He discussed challenges he faced in different countries and how being bi-lingual has opened up many opportunities for him.
