Each week, Pacific Ridge School invites you to enjoy a spontaneous view of school life.

Ripple Effect: 7th graders raised awareness for the global water crisis during last Friday's "Walk for Water." Through their fundraising efforts, the students raised enough money to dig a well for an elementary school in South Sudan!

For the 6th year in a row, Pacific Ridge families are invited to come together for an evening at Balboa Park's beautiful Old Globe Theatre. This year's selected performance is Shakespeare's The Comedy of Errors, a fast-paced, farcical tale of two sets of identical twins accidentally separated at birth. A link for ticket sales, complete with a promotional code for Pacific Ridge families, is on its way. Save the date of August 29th at 8:00 p.m., and be on the lookout for a summer email with more information about this popular community outing.

Reminder to Senior Parents From the Nursing Office

The nurses would like to remind parents of seniors that now is a good time to schedule any medical appointments your children may need before heading off to college. Annual physicals and updated vaccinations may be required before school starts in the fall.

Middle School Travel Programs Are Underway
Pacific Ridge Middle Schoolers are busy exploring locales on both coasts of the United States this week. Seventh graders are studying field science at Nature Bridge in the Santa Monica mountains, learning how to make hypotheses about the area's ecology and back it up with data collected from the field. In Williamsburg, eighth graders have explored historic Williamsburg, Jamestown and Yorktown, discussed the American Revolution with George Washington, Patrick Henry and Thomas Jefferson, sailed a schooner, and practiced 18th-century brickmaking.

Upper School Travel Programs in Week #2
Upper School students on both school-designed and self-designed trips are immersed in their travels, with most returning to Pacific Ridge this Thursday and Friday. Students have made new friends, enjoyed diverse cultures and cuisines, contributed to communities they have visited and handled the challenges of global travel with aplomb. Below are a few snapshots of Pacific Ridge students in action:

Students pulled out all the stops - flashcards, games, silly songs - while teaching English at a rural primary school in China.

Students Lend a Hand to Local Non-Profits

During the global travel period, Pacific Ridge students put their commitment to service into action both around the world and at home. Students who chose to remain on campus have been volunteering at Brother Benno's and Interfaith Services, two North County non-profit organizations that address the needs of low-income, homeless and otherwise underserved populations. Students have helped organize the Brother Benno's thrift store and lent a hand with general upkeep in preparation for the store's large, annual sale. At Interfaith Services, students helped prepare food for the more than 100 clients who stop by the organization daily for a hot breakfast and sack lunch.
