Legally Blonde Jr. Delights With Humor, Heart

The verdict is in on this year's Middle School production of Legally Blonde Jr. - it was a hit! On May 21st - 23rd, a young, talented cast and crew delivered the upbeat, heartfelt tale of Elle Woods, a fashion-loving sorority girl who goes to Harvard Law in search of love and ends up finding herself. The infectious energy of the production came through in colorful costuming and lively choreography, and catchy songs like "So Much Better" and "Omigod You Guys" had audience members humming all the way home. Snaps to the performers and crew for pulling off the show's trademark humor while still bringing warmth and depth to a vibrant cast of characters. Thanks also to Ms. Irvine and Mr. Dziekonski for directing and producing another outstanding show.

7th Graders Will "Walk for Water" on May 29th
Water, or the lack thereof, has been on the minds of many San Diegans lately, and Pacific Ridge 7th graders are no exception. During a recent unit on water, students learned about the California drought and Carlsbad desalination plant. They also studied global water issues and read A Long Walk for Water, by Linda Sue Park. Equipped with a deeper understanding of the problems faced by those without reliable access to clean water, the 7th graders set out to help. They are currently trying to raise $2,650 to dig a well for an elementary school in South Sudan through H20 for Life. To help reach their fundraising goals, the entire 7th-grade class will be participating in a "Walk for Water" on May 29th. If you are interested in supporting the students' efforts, please click here to learn more.

Boys Varsity Lacrosse Loses Nail-Biter to Torrey Pines
On May 23rd, the first-seeded Firebirds suffered a razor-thin, 13-14 loss to a formidable Torrey Pines team. In a strange bit of seeding fate, the Falcons, who are the No. 2 team in San Diego County, were seeded 8th, setting up a championship level showdown in the CIF Quarterfinals. Despite facing a landmine opponent with five CIF championships and a massive roster to its name, the Firebirds refused to cower. Throughout the game, Pacific Ridge mounted several comebacks that had the fans on the edge of their seats 'till the very end - when the would-be equalizer deflected with 13 seconds remaining. The tough loss marks the end of a wildly impressive season for Firebird Boys Lacrosse. The team finished the regular season undefeated in league play, the No. 1 team in San Diego County and a top-ranked team in Southern California. Congratulations to the boys, Coach Collins, Coach Elsdon, and Coach VanSant on an incredible season!

Track and Field Athletes Named 'All Pacific League 2015'
Congratulations to the seven Pacific Ridge Varsity Track and Field athletes who earned "All Pacific League 2015" honors in their individual events: Travis Headapohl - 1600M; Cole Hardin - High Jump, Alexandra Carter - 100M, Long Jump, Triple Jump, 4x100 Relay; Gianna Bacher - 100M, 300M Hurdles; Hanna Maerowitz - 4x100 Relay, Anna Bae - 4x100 Relay, Isabella Church - 4x100 Relay. Additional congratulations go to Alexandra, who was named "Field Event Athlete of the Year."

Boys Varsity Volleyball Ends Run at CIF Semifinals
On May 20th, the Boys Varsity Volleyball team fell to Lincoln High School 0-3 in the CIF Semifinals. The season-ending loss was tough, but does not detract from the extraordinary promise the team has shown during its first year as a CIF varsity sport. The Firebirds maintained a perfect 6-0 record in league play and a 13-7 overall record despite facing opponents with far more competitive volleyball experience. Fortunately, the young team returns many of its starters and key players next year, so the potential for growth is unlimited. Congratulations to the boys and Coach McCabe on setting a great tone for the future of the Firebird Boys Volleyball program!
