World Blind Golf Champion Looks Beyond Adversity

Inspirational speaker, philanthropist and World Blind Golf Champion Jeremy Poincenot shared his personal journey from adversity to triumph during last week's Community Life. Six years ago, Poincenot was an average San Diego State University sophomore when he was diagnosed with Leber's Hereditary Optic Neuropathy (LHON) - an extremely rare genetic disorder that left him legally blind in a matter of months. While initially depressed about his vision loss, Poincenot soon realized that he needed to focus on what remained possible, rather than dwell on what he had lost. Today, Poincenot holds numerous national and world Blind Golf Championship titles, and travels the world spreading awareness and raising funding for LHON.

Jeremy Poincenot encourages students to remain focused on life's possibilities.

Seniors Have A Ball With Bubble Soccer

Last week, hard-working seniors discovered a surefire stress reliever - bubble soccer! Students suited up in translucent spheres from head to hip, with legs left free to run...into one another. Classmates cheered from the stands as their friends bumped and tumbled to victory or, more often, hilarity. The silly sport was a well-deserved break from senior projects, exams and college applications.
