Imagine, Innovate, Impact!

On the evening of August 24th, Pacific Ridge parents and friends gathered on campus to celebrate the intersection of arts and technology and to get an insider's view of the soon-to-be-completed Middle School building and Arts Center. Guests participated in several arts and STEAM-related activities, ranging from trying the Pata Pata dance and creating abstract art, to learning about the chemistry involved in making ice cream and fermenting beverages. Attendees also had the opportunity to learn more about the Breaking Through Campaign, which is funding the new facilities. For more information about the campaign, please click here.

Theater Students Perform at Edinburgh Fringe Festival!
In early August, eleven students in the Advanced Theater Arts class joined more than 30,000 performers from around the globe at the renowned Fringe Festival in Edinburgh, Scotland. The students put on four successful performances of Liz Flahive's From Up Here during their two-week stay and learned the ropes of performing at an international festival. Challenges included moving set pieces and props in and out of each theater venue in less than 15 minutes and persuading crowds on the festival's crowded streets to attend their show. When not promoting, rehearsing or performing, the group explored Edinburgh's landmark sites, engaged with fellow performers from around the world, and enjoyed the wonderfully diverse productions the Fringe offers. According to Theater teacher Alison Trattner, the trip was "the global theater experience of a lifetime."

Students Help Brighten San Diego Rescue Mission

This summer, seniors Meghan Grogan and Margaret Zhao used their love of aesthetics and design to help residents at the San Diego Rescue Mission feel more at home. With the help of classmates, Meghan and Margaret transformed the shelter's Recuperative Care Unit common room into a comfortable and welcoming environment by painting the walls, providing furniture and hanging artwork. The project, deemed "Operation Color," began as a SEED grant project during the students' sophomore year and was continued as an Independent Service Learning project.

Girls Varsity Volleyball Visits U.S. National Team

On August 13th, the Girls Varsity Volleyball team traveled to Anaheim to observe a U.S. Women's National Team practice session. While there, the Firebirds helped shag balls, watched drills, listened to the coaches' feedback, and interacted with the team during downtime. This is the second year the team has had this opportunity, and it is a tradition Coach Aly Dahl hopes to continue. "This experience is priceless," Dahl said. "Getting to see volleyball played at such a high level and witness these players' commitment, teamwork, and enthusiasm helps us start our season with just the right attitude."
