Students Reflect on Student Leadership Conference
In December, six Pacific Ridge students attended the Student Diversity Leadership Conference in Washington, DC. At Community Life on January 15th, the participants shared stories from their experience with students in the Upper School. At the conference, attendees engaged in a curriculum centered on cultural identifiers, worked with affinity groups and connected with students from other independent schools in the region to create a strong network for continued leadership at their schools. The students hope to use the knowledge and skills they gained to further promote diversity, inclusivity, multiculturalism and equity at Pacific Ridge School.

Ms. Gorgueiro, Mr. Bray and students discuss diversity.

Eighth Grader Demonstrates that Someone Cares
On Saturday, January 18th, a number of friends and classmates joined Luke Netzley '18 and his family at their annual backpack party. Volunteers filled 1,000 durable backpacks each with a wool blanket, warm socks, gloves, a hat, toiletries and cookies for San Diego's homeless. Each backpack is embroidered with the phrase "Someone Cares." The following day, Luke helped distribute the backpacks to homeless individuals throughout downtown San Diego. The Netzley family has been supplying the backpacks and hosting the packing party for 12 years. It's an annual tradition, and one of Luke's favorite days of the year.
