Pacific Ridge School families and friends gathered on Saturday, October 19th to celebrate autumn while supporting student service learning groups and clubs in their educational and fundraising efforts. Attendees enjoyed perennial Fall Fest favorites such as the pumpkin patch, faculty dunk tank, musical performances, scrumptious bake sale and Model U.N. carwash. Students Cross Border to Share Stories, Perspectives
On Friday, October 18th, eleven Upper School students and four faculty members traveled to Tijuana to visit the Centro de Enseñaza Técnica y Superior High School (CETYS). While there, students engaged in a number of discussions with Mexican students about their interests, daily lives and reflections on the relationship between Mexico and the United States. The conversations, held almost exclusively in Spanish, allowed students to hear and express varied perspectives and to learn more about each other. The trip also included a quick tour of the city and a visit to the border fence, where Pacific Ridge and CETYS students discussed its significance in their lives and world views.

Honors Environmental Science Studies Forest Ecosystem
Students in Honors Environmental Science traveled to Hosp Grove in Carlsbad last week. The Eucalyptus forest, originally intended to supply lumber for railroad construction, was planted in 1908. Students surveyed the grove to determine whether it is a healthy forest ecosystem. Their conclusion? The forest is under stress and shows signs of significant termite damage. Students concluded their trip by discussing the elements needed to support healthy forests in the area, and ways to make Hosp Grove flourish in the future.

Spread the Love Shares Fall Fest Bounty
At Fall Fest, visitors to student service group Spread the Love's booth were invited to make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for the homeless while learning about their plight from students who have been conversing with homeless San Diegans over the past year. At the conclusion of the event, group members gathered up the sandwiches and collected left over food from other Fall Fest booths. Later in the evening, they headed downtown, where they distributed over 110 sandwiches and numerous treats to residents of a shelter for battered women and to people on the streets. They were greeted with appreciation and respect, shared fascinating conversations, and spread the spirit of the day to the heart of the city.
