Making a Difference: Athletes Saving Athletes
On Wednesday, September 18th, Beth Mallon, co-founder of Advocates for Injured Athletes (AIA), shared the story of her foundation with Pacific Ridge during Community Life. Ms. Mallon and her son, Tommy, started the organization after his life was saved by a teammate who discouraged him from getting up when he suffered a neck fracture in a lacrosse game. Since its founding, AIA has trained over 1,500 San Diego athletes how to recognize life-threatening injuries and conditions, and how to get immediate help for their teammates. For more information, visit the AIA website.

Beth Mallon assures students that they have the power to save a life.

Service Learning in the Field

Service Learning Partners With Junior Achievement
Pacific Ridge's Upper School Service Learning program is providing students with added training in leadership and entrepreneurialism this year, with the help of Junior Achievement of San Diego. Several adults from the Pacific Ridge community recently met with Upper School students to share the knowledge they've gained through starting businesses and non-profit organizations. Students will build this helpful information into their work launching and managing the 20 Upper School service learning groups currently running at Pacific Ridge. Many thanks to parents Mike Perry, Corey Meitchik and Karen Ventura, as well as Coach Steve Edwards, for donating their time and words of wisdom.

Coach Edwards discusses the advertising field and his work with an agency that provides reconstructive surgery to disadvantaged children.

Parents Association

Connect with Other PRS Parents - Join the Supper 8 Club!

The Parents Association is preparing to launch this year's Supper 8 Club - a fantastic opportunity to connect with other Pacific Ridge parents in a social setting. Groups of eight Pacific Ridge parents will organize dinner parties every other month (or four times per year) that can be held at homes, restaurants, or whatever setting works for each group. Both couples and single parents are welcome! Participants will be grouped by grade levels whenever possible.

If you are interested in joining, please click here and submit your online Supper 8 participation form by Friday, September 27th. Groups will be formed by the end of September for start up in October/early November.
