10th Graders Plant a Seed To Better the World
During Community Life on Wednesday, May 1st, 10th graders held a Planting a Seed Fair at which they presented seed grant proposals to the school community. Students were asked to seek out an issue that is adversely affecting a community either locally or globally, and to design a business plan they could implement to address that problem. Projects were assessed based on their mission, viability and sustainability. Students who wish to pursue their projects will be able to apply for seed funding in their junior year.
7th Grade Explores Birch Aquarium and Children's Pool
On Tuesday, April 30th, 7th graders spent the morning visiting the Birch Aquarium and La Jolla Cove. At the Aquarium, students applied what they've been learning in Life Science to follow a scavenger hunt and answer questions about the species on display. At the cove, they learned about the current controversy over whether the Children's Pool should be treated as a marine mammal sanctuary or preserved for recreational swimming. Upon returning to campus, students selected sides in the issue and debated the merits of each.

Parents Association Dedicates Library Chair in Memory of Elizabeth Sinclair
Last fall, when the Pacific Ridge Parent Book Club lost its longtime leader, Elizabeth Sinclair, book club members and friends looked for a way to commemorate Elizabeth's commitment to Pacific Ridge. It was decided that a cozy leather chair for the library would be a perfect way to remember Elizabeth's passion for books and reading. On April 25th, Elizabeth's three daughters, Melissa, Heather and Courtney gathered with librarian Ellen Cothran and several book club members to dedicate the chair. Please stop by to see this lovely new addition to the library. Gracious thanks to La Costa Upholstery for attaching the dedication plaque to the chair.
