Students Present Senior Signature Projects
In March, seniors presented their Senior Signature projects, culminating works meant to highlight the "purposeful life" aspect of Pacific Ridge's mission and to leave an individual legacy for the benefit of the school community. Eighteen seniors, individually or in groups, were nominated by the entire senior class and faculty advisors to present as finalists at an all-school Community Life on Wednesday, April 10th. The finalists shared projects that illustrated their commitment to the school as well as their deep appreciation for many aspects of their high school experience. Projects range from artistic (sculpture and song) to informational (surveys, websites and handbooks) to community-oriented (exchange programs, service learning and student groups). Congratulations to the finalists, who were selected according to the strength of their projects in several areas, among them outcome, purpose, process and rationale:

Curricular Adventures

9th Graders Take in Culture and Science at Balboa Park
On Monday, April 8th, the 9th-grade class visited Balboa Park for a day-long field trip. Students explored all the sights along the stretch of El Prado between the Old Globe and the memorial rose garden, including extended visits to the Museum of Man and the Museum of Natural History. At the Museum of Man, students complemented their study of the ancient Mayan culture by examining huge Mayan monuments, or stelae, currently on exhibit. The stelae are casts made from originals in Quirigua, an archaeological site in Guatemala. Sharp-eyed students even caught a mistake made by curators of the exhibit when noting how the Mayan people marked the cardinal directions (north, east, south and west). At the nearby Natural History Museum, students studied California's complicated relationship with water and tested their courage getting up close to some of nature's most curious creatures in an exhibition devoted to exotic bugs.
