Honors Theater: An Evening of Selected Scenes
On Friday, March 15th, Honors Theater students performed scenes from a number of plays, including George Bernard Shaw's Pygmalion, Craig Lucas's Prelude to a Kiss, Eugene Ionesco's The Lesson, and Jean-Paul Sartre's No Exit. Several students also reprised the Shakespeare monologues they performed earlier in the year. Theater teacher Alison Trattner was proud of the ambition shown by her class. "After our recent field trip to see Pygmalion at The Old Globe, students were inspired to stretch themselves beyond the material they knew," she says. "In a short time, the class covered a huge span of theater history and students had to draw on many reserves for character development." Honors Theater students will be presenting more scenes from The Lesson at the Spring Arts Festival on April 26th.

Service Learning in the Field

Panels Review Service Learning Groups
For the second time this year, all 23 Upper School Service Learning groups presented their missions, activities and future goals to panels made up of Pacific Ridge faculty and staff. Students discussed how they used feedback from the first set of panel reviews in December to improve their programs and highlighted their most significant achievements to date. According to teacher Todd Burckin, who organized the reviews, the feedback provided is valuable. "The panel reviews enable the groups to share their work, examine their recent progress, finish the year on a strong note and plan productively for next year," he says. "They also allow faculty and staff to familiarize themselves with the many significant contributions students are making with their time and energy. The entire Service Learning program benefits from the exchange."
