Arts Community Leaders Join the Harkness Table
On Wednesday, November 7th, 23 leaders (executive, creative, and educational directors) from San Diego's arts community visited campus to lend their creative perspectives and expertise to discussions about Pacific Ridge's future arts program and facilities. 7th Graders Get Eyewitness View of Justice System
On Tuesday, November 6th, 7th graders visited the Vista Courthouse to observe the justice system at work. Students spoke to Judge Aaron Katz and several prosecutors and public defenders before watching a prospective juror video and visiting courtrooms to observe trials in progress. After returning to campus, students became eyewitnesses to a pre-planned "event," followed by creative exercises and discussions about the reliability of observation and memory. Thanks go to parents Bill and Sherry Stone for organizing this informative trip.

Democracy in Action: 8th Graders Head to the Polls
8th graders experienced Election Day first-hand by conducting exit polls at neighborhood voting sites. After observing the voting process, students asked voters for demographic information, surveyed them on their presidential and senatorial choices, and noted their preferences on several ballot initiatives. Later, students compared survey results with San Diego County and California state election returns. Students learned about the uses and limitations of statistical sampling, and examined the complex relationship between demographics and political values.
