Fall Fest is Here This Weekend!

Don't miss Fall Fest, when Pacific Ridge students raise funds and awareness for their Service Learning groups and clubs. Terrific food, student performances, a pumpkin patch and an incredible bake sale make Fall Fest an event for the whole Pacific Ridge community to enjoy.

Last Call for Arts Harknesses!

Parents: There are still a few spots available at two upcoming Harkness discussions exploring the arts at Pacific Ridge School. Come share your creative ideas and valuable perspectives as we map out the future of our programs. RSVP to Jean Nassif at jnassif@pacificridge.org.

Middle School Halloween Party on October 26th
Middle School students can prepare for the most frightful night of the year by celebrating with food, friends and fun. Costumes are optional.

Time: 6:00 - 9:00 p.m.

Upper School Dance on October 27th
Upper School students are invited to an evening of dancing and socializing. Snacks, desserts and refreshments will be served. Come dressed in your "casual black & white."

Admissions Open House on October 27th

Families interested in Pacific Ridge School are encouraged to attend our first Open House event of the year, on Saturday, October 27th, from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. Faculty and current students will present information about the school and its programs from 1:00 to 2:15 p.m. Campus tours and exhibits will take place between 2:15 and 4:00 p.m. Interested in attending an Open House event? Annual Fund is Off and Running

Today marks the kickoff of this year's Annual Fund Campaign. Our goal is to raise $520,000 and to once again reach 100% school-wide participation. We encourage you to support our faculty and programs by making an Annual Fund contribution. Gifts of all sizes are greatly appreciated and will help us reach both our dollar and participation goals. New & Noteworthy

Michael Gelb Teaches & Inspires Pacific Ridge Community
On Thursday, October 18th, author and guest speaker Michael Gelb visited Pacific Ridge and presented to students, faculty and parents about successful learning attitudes, innovative teaching, and how to maximize creativity. In the morning, Mr. Gelb discussed the core principles of accelerated learning when he taught over 500 Pacific Ridge students and faculty the basics of juggling. He encouraged students to approach mistakes creatively, tackle projects collaboratively, and practice relentlessly to achieve their desired goals. In the afternoon, Mr. Gelb discussed innovation with faculty members, describing the rigorous, disciplined process of innovation embodied in the work of Thomas Edison. In the evening, parents and guests were treated to an exploration of the genius of Leonardo da Vinci. Mr. Gelb shared insights gained from years of studying Leonardo's writings, artwork and inventions. He encouraged his audience to set aside preconceived notions about learning and to nurture creativity every day.

Seeking That Perfect Parking Spot on Campus?
A prime on-campus parking spot will go to the lucky winner of the Fall Fest Parking Space Raffle (a real bonus for families with student drivers!). Tickets can be purchased at Fall Fest.

Support Rady Children's Hospital Through Kids Newsday
Tuesday, October 23rd is Kids Newsday, when the San Diego Union-Tribune publishes a special $1 kids edition to support Rady Children's Hospital. Newspapers will be for sale during morning drop-off, and available for students to purchase on campus. For more information, visit the Rady Children's Hospital Foundation website.

Hunter Headapohl '14 Wins Gold from Columbia Scholastic Press Association
Global Vantage editor Hunter Headapohl has received the Gold Circle Award in the Non-Fiction Column category from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association. Hunter was honored for his Editor's Note in Global Vantage Issue 4, in which he introduces the magazine's featured stories and describes the philosophy that drives both the magazine and the Global Journal Project. Hunter's award is the third honor recently bestowed upon the Global Journal Project and its team of Global Vantage editors.

Meghan Bacher '13 Selected for Distinguished Honor Choir
Senior Meghan Bacher has been selected as one of the top high school vocalists in Southern California by being invited to perform with the Southern California High School Honor Choir in Los Angeles on November 16th and 17th. The choir consists of approximately 75 singers, and will be led by Dr. Jonathan Talberg, a professional choir director and professor of music at Cal State Long Beach. Meghan is a member of the Pacific Ridge A Cappella Ensemble, and is the first Pacific Ridge student to be chosen for this prestigious honor.

Dig Pink! Draws Big Crowds, Raises Awareness
On Tuesday, October 16th, the girls varsity volleyball team sponsored Dig Pink! day at Pacific Ridge School. Students, faculty, and staff came to school decked out in pink shirts and other accessories sold by team members in order to raise awareness about breast cancer. In front of an enthusiastic crowd, the girls volleyball team played a nail-biting game against Calvin Christian. They lost the match 2-3, but won big in the fight against breast cancer.





Girls Cross Country Makes Big Statement
The girls Varsity Cross Country team was a dominant presence at its first Coastal League meet of the year, garnering 5 of the top 6 places in the race (see team scores below). The boys varsity and JV squads also had strong finishes against an impressive field. Way to fly, Firebirds!
