Panthers Have Clean Sweep

The Basketball season is well under way. On Tuesday night, Pinewood had a clean sweep of all four Palmetto Christian teams. The JV Girl's won 35-18. Katie Bilsback was the high scorer with 14 points followed by Samantha Hilleshiem with 10 points. The JV boy's played next and won 47-14. The leading scorer was Jalen Williams with 16 points.  The game ball went to Ryan Huiet for his outstanding rebounding which allowed Pinewood to get into their fast break offense. Ryan also played awesome defense.  Palmetto Christian could not keep up with the pace of the game.  Brandon Miller also played well.

The Varsity girls' then played and posted another win by defeating The Eagles 45-42. The Lady Panthers took a commanding first quarter lead 13-6 and controlled the game, never losing the lead throughout the four quarters. In the first half, the Lady Panthers forced ten turnovers with senior Caroline Chester converting 3 of those turnovers into baskets. By half time the Panthers had a ten point lead 25-15 and by the end of the third quarter Pinewood took the game out of Palmetto Christian's reach by leading 38-23. Palmetto Christian did crawl back in the fourth quarter and led in scoring and managed to come within just a few points but it wasn't enough. Precious Paylor and Leah Wright iced the game for Pinewood by completing their free throws down the stretch to solidify the win.

Chester recorded a double double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Paylor had 11 points and Wright had 8 points. Head Coach Tony Bulford said, "It is early in the season but I am proud of the team and we are off to a good start. We are a young team and we will continue to work hard in practice to get better".

The Varsity boy's team played the last game of the evening and recorded their fourth victory of the season with a 75-43 win over Palmetto Christian. After coming off of a 55-50 loss to Wando in the championship game of the Military Magnet Thanksgiving Tournament, the Panthers bounced back with an outstanding offensive performance. Four Panthers scored in double figures led by Austin McCray with 19, Ahmad Ray with 17 and Dexter Coaxum and Leslie Redden both scoring 11.

Pinewood was trailing after the first quarter 23-19 behind outstanding shooting from Palmetto. The Panthers tightened up on defense and held the Eagles to only three points in the second quarter and led 42- 26 at the half.

McCray was also tough on the boards pulling down 10 rebounds and adding four assists. Jimmy Thomas did an outstanding job at point guard handing out 7 assists. The Panthers are currently playing without the services of Seniors Evan Schwartz and Reid Radebaugh and both should be back with the team for the Roundball Tournament after Christmas.

Head Coach Pat Eidson said, "When we get all of our people healthy, we are going to have a pretty solid team. I saw glimpses of how good we can be in the loss to Wando and how we handled Palmetto Christian".

Stokes Volkswagen, on Ashley Phosphate Road, is part of the Stokes Automotive Family, which has owned and operated car dealerships in Charleston since 1964. The Stokes family takes a "hands on" approach to running  Stokes Volkswagen every day, and you can feel the family atmosphere from the moment you walk through their doors.  The sales department, run by Ed Seyle, Edwards Stokes' grandson, might be the friendliest, car sales staff in the business.

Whether it's a new Volkswagen or a quality pre-owned vehicle that suits you, Ed Seyle and his team treat every customer with honesty and fairness. The service and parts department is run by John Kerrigan and the level of professionalism and accuracy that Stokes Volkswagen will service your vehicle will impress you every time.

The entire operation is overseen by General Manager, Travis Westbury, a Pinewood Prep parent.  Travis has over 20 years in the retail automobile business, and his passion for his list of happy customers is best expressed by the smile he greets them with when they make casual visits just to say, "Hello."

"Volkswagen as a brand has always been a family-oriented vehicle, since the early days of the 'Beetle' and the 'Bus'," Travis said.  "So it suits us well to make sure that we treat every customer like they're part of the Stokes Volkswagen family.  That's probably why our customers refer their friends and family, and visit as often as they can."

The Volkswagen brand itself has come a long way since then.  Now, Volkswagen boasts 12 unique models, many of which are built in America -- with the marvels of German engineering and styling.  Best of all, Volkswagens are value priced, get great fuel economy, and are inexpensive to maintain.  If you're in the market for a new or pre-owned vehicle, or you're looking for an honest service department to service or repair your vehicle in the most professional manner, visit Stokes Volkswagen on Ashley Phosphate.  You'll be glad you did.
