A Message From The Athletic Director

Let the players play,

Let the coaches coach,

Let the officials officiate,

Let the fans cheer POSITIVELY and ENTHUSIASTICALLY!!

Dear Panther Fans

As we move into our seventh week of Fall Season competitions, let's remember to continue to cheer as loud as we can for ALL of our Pinewood student-athletes and coaches.  At Pinewood, we are reminded that GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP is expected and that there are many lessons to learn through our participation in athletics. This is not merely a campaign, but it is the essence of what we are about!

Let's have a positive impact on the game-day atmosphere at all of our athletic venues both home and away. Let's be committed to creating a safe and enjoyable experience for our visitors, coaches, officials, and student-athletes. As parents and fans, we are reminded that entering the field at anytime is not permitted. Your cooperation is appreciated with these requests and our reminder about good sportsmanship!

Be Loud and Show Your Panther Pride!

Go Panthers!!

Nancy Beatty

Volunteer Of The Year Award

Every year SCISA recognizes an outstanding Athletic Director who unselfishly gives of his/her time, talent, and facilities for SCISA and student-athletes.

Last week at the SCISA Athletic Directors meeting, Pinewood's Athletic Director Nancy Beatty was presented with the "Charles Smith" Volunteer of The year Award. The award was named for Charles Smith, the long time Athletic Director at Wilson Hall, who served as the Secretary-Treasurer for the Coaches' Association for over 20 years. Charles, along with his wife Barbara, gave untold hours for thousands of student-athletes who participated in all star events.

Last year Pinewood hosted the SCISA State Championships for both Equestrian and Cheerleading, a clinic for basketball officials and the first round of the basketball

play-offs.

Nancy Beatty is thrilled with receiving this award, "I am very happy to acceNancy Beattypt this award on behalf of Pinewood Prep. The real credit goes to the team that includes coaches, parents, administration and maintenance who worked extremely hard to make each and every one of these events a huge success! Our pursuit of excellence at Pinewood is driven by a number of great people that are willing to make a difference every day."

Head master Steve Mandell added, "Nancy Beatty continues to represent the very best of her field each and every day.  The role of the athletic director is complex and each day is full with hundreds of details, big and small.  With all of that, Coach Beatty is so acutely focused on what matters most - the people in our school.  The Smith Award reflects an even greater scope of concern and focus - Nancy's commitment to the broader world of SCISA athletics and the students of South Carolina.  She is a credit to her profession".

Support The Pinewood PE Department

Coke offers a great program called "My Coke Rewards".  Specifically "My Coke Rewards for Schools" is a program that Pinewood is able to order FREE games and equipment for the P.E. department.

The program is very simple and we woul Coke Rewards Logo d like your help. When you purchase Coke products, there is a code on the packaging. On screw top bottles it is under the cap. On 12 pack cartons it is under the end flap of the box.  Like the Box-Tops you can turn these codes in to Pinewood.  Please turn them in to the front office or anyone in the PE Department.

It is our hope that our students and parents will get used to collecting these as they have the Box Tops for education.

Thanks in advance for supporting this new program. We hope to have a lot of free equipment coming our way soon.

Panthers Fall To The Lions

Pinewood fell 40-6 to the Lions of Augusta Christian Friday night in its fourth straight loss of the season. The Panthers knew coming in that this would be a tough encounter as Augusta Christian are undefeated to date.

Head Coach Jody Kafina said, "We are not  happy that we have dropped 4 straight. It is not the way we anticipated the season going. Injuries are hampering the success of the season in wins and losses. With young kids gaining valuable time we know this will pay off in the long run.  The sophomores will be juniors before you know it and playing time builds experience and that helps win games. I know we are getting closer to our goals, it is just taking a little longer than expected."

Pinewood held Augusta to 7-0 in the first quarter after Tyler Robertson scored on an 11 yard run. Robertson had a successful evening and was 12 for 14 for 219 yards.

Pinewood did put together several lengthy drives in the first quarter and the defense forced some 3 and outs. The Panthers put two nice drives together and ran the clock downFootball vs. Augusta Christian to stop The Lions from scoring.

It wasn't until late in the second quarter that The Lions let loose posting three touchdowns. Ian McDaniel scored on a 40 yard pass followed four minutes later by a 64 yard pass to Nick Fortenberry. The Lions then followed with an 18 yard run with less than one minute in the half to go in at 27-0.

In the third quarter Augusta Christian scored two more touchdowns and in the fourth Pinewood played well to get their first points on the board and keep Augusta Christian from scoring. The Panthers scored on a 35 yard pass from Bobby Casey to Jared Stenger to claim their six points. The PAT was missed.

On offense Pinewood managed to post some notable drives.   Quarter back Bobby Casey was 8 for 22 for 148 yards, 35 of those rushing. Jarrett Londergan ran 12 times for 55 yards.

In defense there were key performances by Joseph Bates who was steady throughout the game. Zack Latham was key in anchoring the defense. Junior Cameron Poaps played defensive lineman for the first time and played well. Jeremy Hunt continued to be consistent in his performance.

Pinewood is on the road again this Friday when they travel to Ben Lippen. Game time is 7:30pm.

The Panther Athletic Club

The Panther Athletic Club is the Pinewood athletic booster club.  The group is devoted to fostering excellence in Pinewood Preparatory School academics and athletics through financial and boosterPAClogo panther head support.  The club helps subsidize the costs of running a first-rate athletic program by supplying funds needed over and above the regular athletic department budget.

Monies support a wish list of items needed to supply the proper equipment, support and recognition to the variety of boy's and girl's athletic teams at Pinewood. These items, may not be affordable without support from the Panther Athletic Club. All requests for funds are reviewed by the club's Board of Directors to determine the level of need.
