This new book from Rod Hairston is a quick read and is filled with great Biblical insights that all men need to consider and prayerfully implement. Rod has spoken at several of our ISI Conferences (He'll be with us in Roanoke in Feb) and his Cover Her workshop has always been a huge hit. I'll be giving a copy to each of my sons and some other men. Our world keeps sending a message to men of all ages that women are objects to be exploited. This was not and is not God's plan. Men are to cover and protect the women in their lives... moms, sisters, wives, daughters and even women they don't know should feel safe in the presence of a Godly man. I'm now reading Mansfield's Book of Manly Men: An Utterly Invigorating Guide to Being Your Masculine Self. This is just plain cool, fun and challenging. I haven't finished it yet, but this is another book that I'll be sharing with my sons and other men (just ordered several copies to give away). I'm enjoying reading Mansfield's insights about manly men in the Bible and throughout history. His whimsical writing style has drawn me in and I'm already talking with others about what I'm learning from this book. It's another one that's worthy of reading yourself and sharing with your sons. I know that not every guy likes to read or even has time to read. Let me make this suggestion. I purchased an MP3 version of Eric Metaxas' book Seven Men and the Secret of their Greatness just before a long road trip earlier in the fall. Zach (14) was going to join me and I thought it would be cool to listen to this book together. Wow! It was awesome. In the introduction to the book, Metaxas does a masterful job of pointing out that Christ is the ultimate model for manhood. Then, proceeds to give short biographies of seven men in history who in some way modeled a bit of what Christ demonstrated for us. Zach and I listened together intently and enjoyed rich conversations about Jesus and manhood along the journey. It was worth every penny and every minute to share those conversations with my son.
