(HealthDay News) -- Neck pain can indicate a minor injury or falling asleep in an awkward position. In other cases, it may indicate something more serious. The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons says you should visit a doctor if your neck pain:
- Persists despite no known injury.
- Is severe.
- Is accompanied by pain radiating to the arms or legs.
- Is accompanied by numbness, a tingling sensation, weakness or headache.

Background and Need for Action Physical activity for all! Being physically active is one of the most important ways adults and children can improve and maintain their overall health. For adults, regular exercise can reduce the risk of premature death, heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, breast cancer,colon cancer and the risk of falls. For children and adolescents, regular physical activity can decrease body fat and improve bone health, cardiorespiratory fitness and muscular strength. Physical activity can also decrease the risk of depression in adults and reduce depression symptoms in young people.
