Is Your Chicken Safe to Eat?
|
Studies find Cancer-Causing Arsenic in Chicken
A commonly used arsenic based drug 3-Nitro (roxarsone) has been used to treat/prevent diseases in chickens. It was claimed that it passed through the chicken and was not present in the meat to be consumed. Studies have shown that in fact, this less toxic organic form of arsenic used in the feed is known to transform to the inorganic form, a known human carcinogen, which is stored in the meat sold to consumers. Since these findings, the FDA reports that this most common source of arsenic along with others have either been taken off the market or will be soon. Read the FDA account here.
documented collusion between the FDA and the pharmaceutical company Pfizer, whereby the FDA did not refuse approval of the dangerous additives and left it up to Pfizer to delay the withdrawal of roxarsone in the U.S. and to continue to sell it abroad. Additionally, the FDA worked with the pharmaceutical company to develop a strategy for releasing the study results (a considerable delay) to the media which was a conflict with the FDA's role by law of protecting the consumer . Read the full article here.
Meanwhile, here are a few points to consider if you do want to eat chicken:
- If the chicken meat is bright pink in color, like in an unnatural way, avoid it at all costs.
- Make sure that the fat content on the chicken is white to deep yellow, not gray or pasty.
- Check the date on the package.
- Choose "Certified Organic" meat products.

"WHO AM I?" WORKSHOP and TEA CEREMONY
April 29, 2015 (Wednesday), 7:00 - 9:00 pm
It is the question "Who am I?" that could be the most crucial one in our life. Once this question is clarified, the answer can be a guide, orienting choices for work and everyday living, enhancing self-worth and identifying purpose. In 2012, Dr. Ming Wu did a survey and asked 20 participants 'What is the most important question in your life?' Only 3 people agreed that 'Who am I?' is the most important question to clarify." This points to the need for improvement in the area of self-knowledge. Dr. Wu is currently experimenting with a method of meditation and asking participants to daily pose that simple but essential question ("Who am I?"). The method is showing that "there is a tendency to release blocks, cure disease and promote health when one focuses on this question with a daily practice of meditation."
This workshop includes a tea ceremony with vegetable rice dumplings.
