AUGUST NEWSLETTER

August Showers Bring September Boating Weather

It seems like we are getting more rain this summer than we did all winter, but the water is warm and it still feels like summer in San Diego. We ran across temps up to 74 degrees on our latest cruise off of La Jolla, which is very warm for our local waters. If you enjoy fishing, this has been an incredible year in our local waters for many tropical species such as yellowfin tuna and dorado, and is showing no signs of slowing down.

I hope you enjoy the newsletter and please contact me anytime if I can help you with your boating dreams!

Best wishes,

OCEAN SWELL: KONSTANTIN GRCIC FITS OUT YACHT FOR SAILING'S GREATEST CHALLENGE

In nautical evolutionary terms, the modern racing yacht is the fittest and fastest. Competition creates a ruthless efficiency in boatbuilding, and the world's oceans become testing grounds for advanced materials and new design. Most importantly, the sea is the toughest arena on the planet, and technology has to work seamlessly in what is the ultimate test of endurance.

Hugo Boss has supported ocean racing since 2003, when the German fashion brand became the sponsor of Alex Thomson Racing. British sailor Thomson, having won his first round-the-world race in 1999 (at 25, he was the youngest skipper ever to win such a competition), currently holds a clutch of distance records. He has competed in the gruelling Vende Globe solo round-the-world race since 2004, coming in third in the 2012 event. The next Vende Globe sets sail on 6 November 2016 and the 41-year-old skipper's ambitions now rest on a remarkable new yacht that's been hand-built on the south coast of the UK.

1959 Porsche 356A/1600S Reutter Cabriolet

Porsche completed only 581 1600S Super Reutter Cabriolets. They ranged from Chassis No. 150950 to 151531. This particular example was the 388th of the 581 built. The more powerful and utterly elegant late 1600 Super, 356A Cabriolets offer the best of both worlds, excellent performance and handling with timelessly beautiful open-top driving.
It would be simply impossible to find a more beautiful, authentic or accurately restored example at any price.

If you've contemplated cruising south along the Baja coast or undertaking a long-range cruise elsewhere, but have hesitated, there's a great way to make your first voyage: join a group cruise or "rally."

First-time cruisers benefit from the knowledge of experienced cruisers who can provide help, including mechanical or other repair support if needed. They offer assistance with port entry and slip requirements and guidance to local provisioning, dining and fishing spots. Group cruising is also fun, extending the camaraderie of fellow boaters and the opportunity of new friendships.

Fall is the perfect time to go weather-wise - and organizers of the Baja Ha-Ha, the annual sailboat rally, and CUBAR, the powerboat equivalent which runs every other year, are still accepting applications from participants seeking to join their fleets.
