Since 1982, HFHMM has helped 325 families reach their goal of owning a simple, decent, and affordable home! As you may expect 203 of those families are in Montgomery and Prince George's Counties, but did you know that we've helped 122 internationally?   All Habitat for Humanity affiliates are asked to tithe 10% of their unrestricted funding internationally in an effort to collectively achieve our goal of eliminating poverty housing worldwide.  Since 1985, HFHMM has tithed more than $400,000, helping to provide decent housing for 122 families overseas. 

One of those families is Rosa, Marino, and their daughter Karina.  They live in small village in El Salvador.  Marino works countless hours as a motorcycle taxi driver, while Rosa tends to their corn and bean farms.  They had been living in a roughly 80 square-foot home made of sheet metal where they shared one bed behind the stove.  Rosa had been trying to sell bananas out of her home for years to earn extra money, but many neighbors were afraid to buy her food because of her housing conditions.  Rosa and her husband were selected to purchase a new home from Habitat and now live in a 400sf home that is built to withstand earthquakes.  Karina now has her own bedroom and more friends at school because of her improved housing conditions.  Rosa has opened a store out of the living room where she sells bananas, sodas, snacks, beans, corn, and more and this business brings in extra income for the family.  She is also starting to get paid to do makeup and hair for special occasions.  This has been a dream of hers ever since she went to school for it.
