McGannon Fitness & Nutrition

McGannon Fitness & Nutrition
Located at the Red Rocks Plaza in Southampton, owner Wendy McGannon offers personal training, group fitness classes including Zumba, as well as nutritional coaching.

I got to know Wendy personally when she volunteered her time to be part of the Derrill's Race committee.  As a runner who had participated in the race herself, she was able to give us valuable insight.  Wendy's business was growing quickly and she found that the time spent on marketing, although important, was keeping her from all the other tasks of running her business, so she reached out to me for help.

I joined Wendy's Jog/Walk group in January and her gentle motivation helped me to begin running for the first time in my life.  On April 28th I will be part of Team McGannon Fitness for the Daffodil 5K Run/Walk in Amherst. So far, we have over 15 entrants.

Talk to Wendy about your health and fitness goals and try a class or two. You'll be happy you took the first step. I know I am.

Pro-Tech Waterproofing Solutions
Pro-Tech Waterproofing Solutions

I'm writing this newsletter watching the rain pelt down outside and it reminded me . . . this is a perfect time to talk about my clients over at Pro-Tech Waterproofing Solutions located in Chicopee.  On days like today their phone is ringing off the hook as panicked callers report leaky and wet basements.

Pro-Tech Waterproofing is a family run business. Ron Gilpatrick, daughter Gisele and son Gil and their dedicated crew serve Western Mass, CT, southern VT and parts of New York.  When you call, you'll probably talk with Gisele at "command central" as she is the project manager.  Ron or Gil will often be on the road performing estimates and managing their crews.  You can learn more about Pro-Tech Waterproofing Solutions here:

DOES YOUR MARKETING NEED SOME SPRING CLEANING?
Greetings!

I love opening my windows for the first time in the spring. After being cooped up all winter inside, being able to smell the fresh air and hear the birds chirping is very uplifting and makes me want to begin my spring house cleaning.

As small business owners, it's also a great time to give our businesses a spruce up by reviewing our marketing plans. That's what this month's newsletter is all about -- peeling off our winter layers and renewing our marketing plans with a fresh approaches.

Also new this month - the Small Business Showcase.  I love helping small businesses connect, collaborate and grow stronger, often sharing my client's events and news with my social media connections.  Beginning with this issue I thought it might be fun to introduce one or two of my small businesses clients each month. Hope you'll check them out and get to know each other. Will your business be featured next month? Be sure to check your inbox and find out!

I've been asked to let people know when my next workshop is coming up, so I will give you a heads up that I will be speaking at the Agawam Library on May 21st, 6 - 8:30, sponsored by the Agawam Business Center. The topic: "It's All About The Relationship - marketing your small business in today's social media environment."  More info. to come, of course.
Extreme Makeover
Facebook continues to evolve and keeping up with the changes takes dedication. Spring cleaning should include: 1) Reviewing your About section. Clean up your information, hours, website links, etc.  2) Review your privacy and security settings. 3) Click on Photos and make sure your album titles are eye-catching. Add descriptions to albums and remove outdated or duplicate images.

BREAKING NEWS: Facebook recently announced that it was changing its policy regarding cover images for business pages.  Previously, a cover photo could not contain a "call to action" - getting someone to "like" the page, buy something or to go somewhere.  Any text that was part of an image could not take up more than 20% of the image space.

Facebook's new policy regarding cover images still requires that text be no more than 20% of the image, but now ALLOWS "calls to action" and encourages businesses to change cover images more frequently in order to continue engaging with their audience.  Does your cover photo reflect your business?

Get Linked
LinkedIn is a powerful social media platform that provides great SEO (search engine optimization - ie, getting found by Google) opportunities.  Every time you "tweak" your profile it's another opportunity for you to be seen by your connections as changes appear as notifications.  Even if you DON'T use LinkedIn regularly, you SHOULD keep your profile updated - it's like a resume in the sky . . . er, cloud.

What did you do over the winter that you should include on your profile?  Certifications, awards, projects, volunteer work -- all are worth mentioning.  Of course, if you make updates as events occur, you are less likely to forget.

Other updates to consider include:  current professional title and spiff up your photo.  Now is a great time to give a written recommendation for a key connection or two.  If we are not connected on LinkedIn and we should be, shoot me a request.  If I know you, I'm always happy to connect. If I don't know you, let's meet for coffee!
