News Spotlight: G6 Hospitality Bringing Motel 6 Offshoot to Mexico

Motel 6 Speedway Guest Room

G6 Hospitality, which owns the Motel 6 and Studio 6 economy hotel brands, broke ground this week on its first property in Mexico. The move marks Texas-based G6's expansion south from the U.S. and Canada, which it announced in 2014, and is part of an area development agreement with Latina Promohoteles, a subsidiary of Promodesa Comercial. G6 plans to invest around US$134 million in up to 55 properties in Mexico by 2020, under the brands Hotel 6 and Estudio 6. The company is specifically focusing on business travelers.

The new property, a 76-room Estudio 6 hotel in Salamanca, Guanajuato, will offer suite-type rooms with fully equipped kitchenettes, microwave, refrigerator, cable TV, internet and parking. The company expects to open the Estudio 6 near the end of this year. G6 also plans to open a second property this year, in Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco.

Delays could spread throughout the U.S., as hubs in Atlanta and Dallas face groundings due to ice and snowstorms.
