Automated Passport Kiosks

Speeding up entry to the U.S.

U.S. airports are increasingly installing Automated Passport Control kiosks, which speed up the time it takes to complete the country's customs and immigration process. The kiosks allow passengers entering the U.S. from other countries to scan their passports, complete customs declarations and provide a fingerprint scan before moving on to a Customs and Border Protection officer. U.S. Customs and Border Protection says the kiosks reduce average wait time to enter the U.S. by 29% to 45%.

During the past month, United Airlines installed 20 Automated Passport Control kiosks in its Newark Liberty Airporthub in New Jersey (part of the New York City metropolitan area). Delta Air Lines announced recently that it has completed kiosk installation at all of its main international gateways within the U.S., including Atlanta (Georgia), New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport, Boston (Massachusetts), Detroit (Michigan), Los Angeles (California), Minneapolis (Minnesota) and Seattle (Washington).
