Avoiding the Inevitable: Minivan Alternative!
By Mary Catherine Graziano, Local Motion
Once upon a time, you biked a lot. Or even just a little. But you biked. Then...you had kids. Now your bicycle sits neglected in a dark corner of your home. In a fit of optimism, you may have bought a tow-behind trailer, or a tagalong bike attachment for those idyllic family rides that you fondly imagined. Those items have joined your bike, and in that corner sits a little family of bikes, sadly gathering cobwebs.

As the days get warmer and longer and we spend more time outdoors enjoying all our region has to offer, the month of May is host to many events that gear our attention toward the environment and our quality of life. I'd like to take a moment to thank everyone who participated in these important events that directly and positively impact our environment and quality of life locally, regionally, and statewide.
The 45th annual Green Up Day was May 2nd, and communities around the state gathered to collectively reduce the amount of litter dotting our roadsides and landscapes.
Relatedly, the Chittenden County Stream Team (sponsored by the MS-4 communities) is looking for Water Quality Sampling Volunteers. Water quality sampling in Chittenden County will be underway soon, with the first samples taken on June 23rd. This year, the CCST will be sampling six separate times at 15 sites across Chittenden County and during rain events. Sampling occurs between 6-9am on designated Tuesdays from late June to early September. The CCST is looking forward to analyzing the data and keeping you posted throughout the summer. If you are interested in volunteering, contact anna@winooskinrcd.org.
Thanks to those of you who participated in the Way to Go! Smart Trip Challenge from May 4-15 either directly or through Vermontivate! The CCRPC helped sponsor both of these events and we hope they inspire you to make a difference in your community.
Lastly, from May 16-June 12, you can participate in the Vermont Bike Challenge. This event provides more opportunities to participate and reduce driving costs, air pollution, and traffic congestion.
Thank you to all.
Best regards,
Charlie Baker Executive Director |
