Vermont Ranks # 1 in 2014 Locavore Index
The 2014 Locavore Index incorporates four measures for which current data is available for all states: the number of farmers' markets, the number of consumer-supported agriculture operations (CSAs), the number of food hubs -- all compared on a per-capita basis -- plus the percentage of each state's school districts with active farm-to-school programs. The Index is compiled by The Strolling of the Heifers, a Vermont-based local food advocacy group. [Learn More]

With temperatures rising and numerous waterways unable to support the spring melt, flooding has been at the forefront of everyone's minds. In light of the recent floods throughout Chittenden County and beyond, we wanted to inform you of how, since Tropical Storm Irene battered Vermont in 2011, CCRPC staff has been playing an active role in providing information to the State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC) in Waterbury. Dan Albrecht, Paul Luciano, and Pam Brangan of the CCRPC assist by gathering data on damages and closures to local roads, buildings, and other damage caused by natural disasters and reporting to the SEOC. They have also helped staff the SEOC itself. In addition to this direct work during a disaster, CCRPC can assist municipalities with writing proposals for the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program, as well as help towns update their All Hazards Mitigation Plans and their annual Local Emergency Operations Plans. For more information, including details about how the CCRPC can help your town, please contact Emergency Management Planner, Paul Luciano at pluciano@ccrpcvt.org or Senior Planner, Dan Albrecht at dalbrecht@ccrpcvt.org. Best regards, Charlie Baker Executive Director |
