Along with the many projects we have underway, we are winding down on the collaborative development of the new integrated Regional Plan for Chittenden County called the ECOS Project. The public comment phase for the Strategies and Actions outlined in the Draft is from November 15 - December 31, 2012, at:

We invite you to visit the website where you can download the full plan as a PDF, and/or just browse through the eight high-priority, cross-cutting Strategies, each of which has numerous Action items. You can comment and vote on each of them.

Recognition
Vermont's Regional Planning Commissions Win National and State Awards Vermont's eleven regional planning commissions have been awarded a 2012 Excellence in Regional Transportation Award from the National Association of Development Organizations (NADO) for the involvement of its members (the state's regional planning commissions, or RPCs) in the recovery of Vermont's transportation network following Tropical Storm Irene. The state's RPCs also received Project of the Year awards from Vermont Planners Association and the Northern New England Chapter of the American Planning Association.

Moving Forward
The ECOS Project awards $280,000 in Grants As part of the ECOS Project implementation, eight teams received a total of $280,000 for projects that advance the strategic goals of the new integrated regional plan. Two Chittenden County Towns Receive Vtrans Funds for Sidewalks Williston received $145,000 and Hinesburg received $235,000 for creating sidewalks as part of the Bike-Ped Program. Those awards represent approximately 15% of the total of 2,495,000 awarded in the program this year.

Putting Broadband to Work for Vermont e-Vermont is celebrating two years of work in rural towns across our state. We're presenting our lessons learned, resources developed, and community stories shared in the new report Putting Broadband to Work for Vermont.
The Snelling Center for Government's e-Government Help Center is available for towns interested in best practices for municipal websites.
Land Cover Changes Over Time In the 10 years between 1996 and 2006, only .46% of Chittenden County's land cover changed. NOAA has an online atlas that notes gains and losses by numerous sectors. http://www.csc.noaa.gov/ccapatlas/

The ECOS Plan (Chittenden County's 5-year integrated regional plan) is in its final phase of production - the implementation phase! We've been developing our strategies and actions needed to achieve our goals and we'd like you to check them out and tell us what you think. Input Sought on Updated Vermont Outdoor Recreation Plan
The Vermont Department of Forests, Parks and Recreation seeks public comment on updates to the Vermont Outdoor Recreation Plan, 2005-2009, which has expired. The document is a component of the National Park Service (NPS) planning process known as "SCORP," which stands for Statewide Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan. The new document provides a vision, goals and actions in support of outdoor recreation endeavors throughout the state for 2013 through 2017. The draft SCORP is available for review at http://www.vtfpr.org/recreation/scorp/info.cfm, or contact the Department of Forests, Parks and Recreation for a printed copy.
