The current student registration deadline of February 29, 2016 at 11:59 p.m. is quickly approaching. Avoid long lines and long wait times by completing all of the steps below at home and in advance. Please do not wait until the last day to register. You will not be able to click submit if the required documents have not been uploaded. No exceptions will be made for applications that are submitted after the deadline.

Common Mistakes to Avoid
- The annual tax assessment notice is NOT an acceptable replacement for the mortgage statement or deed.
- Not having the correct amount of supporting documents. You need two if you own or rent your home. You need three if your name is not on the lease or mortgage/deed.
- If your name is not on the lease or mortgage/deed, your supporting documents must be in your name. They should not be in the person's name on the lease or mortgage/deed.
- Not showing the parent's/guardian's name and address as well as the date on supporting documents for residency when scanning the documents. All three must be on the scanned image in order for it to be valid. Must have a due date on or after January 12, 2016.
- Upload the ID's for emergency contacts in the same order that you listed them on the application. For example, if you listed Lisa Brown as Emergency Contact #1, upload Lisa Brown's ID as Emergency Contact ID #1.
- Affidavit of Residency must be completed annually (each school year).
List of Acceptable Supporting Documents
- Current Georgia driver's license or Georgia identification card if the address on the identification is the same as the residential address
- Bank statement, loan documents, credit card statement, monthly activity statement, voided check

NEW THIS YEAR: For all KIPP Metro Atlanta Schools, the absolute last day to register current students for the upcoming 2016 - 2017 school year is February 29, 2016 at 11:59 p.m. If you do not click submit to complete registration by then and still want your student to attend for the upcoming school year, you will need to fill out an enrollment application on the KIPP Metro Atlanta website by March 15, 2016 at 5:00 p.m. and enter the lottery with all other prospective families. If you fill out the application after March 15, 2016 at 5:01 p.m., you will go to the end of the waiting list and will not have any enrollment preferences. NO EXCEPTIONS. Please make sure that you complete the application as soon as possible to allow time for any problems that may arise. Applications that are not in the submitted status by February 29, 2016 at 11:59 p.m. will be considered void.
The process for current student registration will be as follows:
- The email was sent on February 11, 2016. By now, you should have received an email with the subject line "KIPP Vision Campus - Current Student Registration is Now Open". Be sure to check your spam and promotions folder (Gmail) if you do not see it in your inbox. If you did not receive one, email TKnox@kippvisionacademy.org.
- The email contains a unique snapcode link for each student for registration. Click on the link to begin the registration application. Please note that all registration information and documents should be submitted online through the registration application.
- If you are applying for bus transportation for the 2016 - 2017 school year, (morning, afternoon, or after care), you must complete the section of the application for bus transportation by the current student registration deadline. There is not a separate application this year. Failure to complete this section may result in your student not having bus transportation for the 2016 - 2017 school year.
- Once you have completed the information section of the registration application, you will be taken to the documents upload page where you will need to upload the required documents listed below.
- Documents must be scanned, saved and then, uploaded. If you do not have a scanner at home, below is the link to a video tutorial for a free scanning app on phones and tablets named Cam Scanner. If you do not wish to use this resource or one similar to it, you can go to the KVC Parent Center, Office Depot, Staples, FedEx Kinkos or some libraries. Close Ties Inaugural Kickin' It With A Cop Event
|
Close Ties: Young Men's Leadership Program
Close Ties is a leadership program for young men in the fifth and sixth grades at KIPP Vision Academy, a public charter school located in Southeast Atlanta. The primary objective of the program is to empower young men to enhance their skills in the program's five core principles:
Brotherhood, Leadership, Altruism, Chivalry, and Knowledge.
The ultimate goal is for these young men to become positive role models who impact change in their school and community at large.
Kickin' it with a Cop: February 19-20, 2016
"Kickin' it with a Cop" is one of several exposure experiences planned for the gentlemen of Close Ties. This event featured police officers from the Atlanta Police Department who were invited to a catered lunch on Friday, February 19, 2016, at KIPP Vision Academy. The police officers were in full uniform and they facilitated real conversations over lunch with 5-6 young men each. Lunch was followed by a whole group panel discussion.
On February 20, 2016, members of Close Ties and participating police officers took part in a social activity. For this portion of the program, police officers were encouraged to dress in regular clothing to show the young men that police officers are people, too. The social activity was held at Metro Lanes & Bowling Center located at 1959 Metropolitan Parkway SW.
Student Reflections
"Before we did the Kickin' It With A Cop program, I thought that it was going to be boring and lame but it wasn't at all. I learned that the cops there grew up in places just like people at KIPP Vision grow up. The surprising thing was that the cops got pulled over when they were younger but then they still became a cop. I told my friends that they need to be in programs like Close Ties so they can learn new things. The Close Ties principle that this program relates to is leadership because the officers serve as leaders for our community and we serve as leaders for our school."
-Jarveous Brown, Sixth Grade Close Ties Member
"Before I did Kickin' It With A Cop, I was scared because I thought they were going to be mean. I learned that even though some cops make bad choices, that doesn't mean that all of them are bad people. They just want to protect us. It was surprising that they went through challenges to earn things just like we earn things in KIPP. It was fun going bowling with them on Saturday. I told my friends that my brothers in Close Ties got to learn from community leaders around us. It relates the most to the Close Ties principle of brotherhood because we made connections with the officers that will last for a long time."
-Camron Billings, Fifth Grade Close Ties Member
"I thought that the police officers were going to put handcuffs on us and let us see how it felt. I learned that police officers are humans and not just people who go around arresting people. It was surprising to see a female police officer and a Caucasian police officer there because I thought that it was only going to be African American male officers. I am glad that we got to talk to a mixed group of officers. I think this program connects with the Close Ties principle of leadership because we led our school in doing something that hasn't been done here before."
-Elisha Bivins. Fifth Grade Close Ties Member
