IMPORTANT - Current Student Registration

The current student registration deadline of February 29, 2016 at 11:59 p.m. is quickly approaching.  Avoid long lines and long wait times by completing all of the steps below at home and in advance. Please do not wait until the last day to register.  You will not be able to click submit if the required documents have not been uploaded.  This feature was added on Friday, February 19, 2016 due to the number of families that submitted incomplete applications.  No exceptions will be made for applications that are submitted after the deadline.

____________________________________________________________

Common Mistakes to Avoid
  • Submitting the application without uploading all of the required documents.  Once you click submit, you cannot go back into the application.  You will have to come to the school and an account administrator will have to login for you
  • Not showing the parent's/guardian's name and address as well as the date on supporting documents for residency when scanning the documents.  All three must be on the scanned image in order for it to be valid.
  • Upload the ID's for emergency contacts in the same order that you listed them on the application.  For example, if you listed Lisa Brown as Emergency Contact #1, upload Lisa Brown's ID as Emergency Contact ID #1.

Registration for current students began on February 11, 2016 and will end on February 29, 2016.

NEW THIS YEAR: For all KIPP Metro Atlanta Schools, the absolute last day to register current students for the upcoming 2016 - 2017 school year is February 29, 2016 at 11:59 p.m.  If you do not click submit to complete registration by then and still want your student to attend for the upcoming school year, you will need to fill out an enrollment application on the KIPP Metro Atlanta website by March 15, 2016 at 5:00 p.m. and enter the lottery with all other prospective families.  If you fill out the application after March 15, 2016 at 5:01 p.m., you will go to the end of the waiting list and will not have any enrollment preferences.  NO EXCEPTIONS. Please make sure that you complete the application as soon as possible to allow time for any problems that may arise.  Applications that are not in the submitted status by February 29, 2016 at 11:59 p.m. will be considered void.

The process for current student registration will be as follows:
  1. The email was sent on February 11, 2016.  By now, you should have received an email with the subject line "KIPP Vision Campus - Current Student Registration is Now Open".
If you did not receive the email, email TKnox@kippvisionacademy.org)
  2. The email contains a unique snapcode link for each student for registration.  Click on the link to begin the registration application. Please note that all registration information and documents should be submitted online through the registration application.
    1. If you are applying for bus transportation for the 2016 - 2017 school year, (morning, afternoon, or after care), you must complete the section of the application for bus transportation by the current student registration deadline.  There is not a separate application this year.  Failure to complete this section may result in your student not having bus transportation for the 2016 - 2017 school year.
  3. Once you have completed the information section of the registration application, you will be taken to the documents upload page where you will need to upload the required documents listed below.
    1. Documents must be scanned, saved and then, uploaded.  If you do not have a scanner at home, below is the link to a video tutorial for a free scanning app on phones and tablets named Cam Scanner.  If you do not wish to use this resource or one similar to it, you can go to the KVC Parent Center, Office Depot, Staples, FedEx Kinkos or some libraries.  Go to https://vimeo.com/125634602 (for uploading using a computer) or  https://vimeo.com/155006804
(for uploading using a mobile device) to watch a tutorial on how to use Cam Scanner and how to upload documents.
    2. Required Documents
      1. Government issued ID for enrolling parent and all emergency contacts
      2. Updated Immunizations for 6th and 7th grade students ONLY (FYI for KVP families with scholars at one of our middle schools)
      3. Proof of Residency
        1. Deed/Mortgage Statement/Lease (mortgage statements and leases must be dated within 30 days of submission date)
        2. Affidavit of Residency.  The Affidavit of Residency must be notarized.  We have notaries available on-site that can notarize documents for $5.00.  Any documents that are notarized on-site can be scanned and uploaded for you.
        3. Georgia Power Bill (must be dated within 30 days of submission date)
        4. Two - Three Supporting Documents for Residency Verification (water bill, cable bill, phone bill, insurance bill, etc. - must be dated within 30 days of submission date).  If you own or rent your residence, you need two supporting documents.  If you live with someone else and your name is not on the lease or mortgage, you need three supporting documents.
IMPORTANT: Do not submit your application until you have uploaded all required documents.  Once you submit the application, you will not be allowed to resubmit or make any changes.

Once you click submit, we will be able to access your current student registration application and documents.  You do NOT need to come to the school and bring your documents as the final step.  We will review applications and documents online and contact you directly if there is an issue with any of your submissions. Otherwise, you will receive an email once your application has been approved and no further steps are required.

10 Scientifically Proven Tips for Happy Kids

Happy.

Wouldn't it be great if there was a way we could guarantee this? Of course, like anything in life, there are no guarantees. But as the mom of five boys, I have over the years found (through trial and error, heh) that some tactics do work better than others in the quest for happy kids. Now I have the scientific evidence to back some of them up!

1. Make Sure They Have Plenty of Time for Play
Sure, my boys have their sports, homework, and other extracurricular activities. But they are kids, and I try to remember that their work is really to play. So they have time every day, with few exceptions, to get down to the business of PLAY. (Bonus? On nice days ... a quiet house!)

2. Praise Hard Work
All play and now work makes Jack a ... wait. That's not how it goes!
When my boys put in effort in a project, I try to remember to praise the work they put into the task. I want them to learn that their efforts are appreciated, even when the outcomes aren't perfect.

3. Instill Traditions
Family dinners (or breakfast!), monthly movies, ornaments every Christmas or special birthday rituals ... constancy means safety to kids, and safety means happiness. It's as simple as that! (source)

4. Let Them Do Their Own Homework
I have a friend who always looked over her oldest daughter's homework and corrected any mistakes, helped her with projects, made sure everything was perfect. She did this out of love ... but what she learned is that she was inadvertently telling her daughter that she wasn't capable of completing these tasks on her own when her daughter hit a level she had to handle herself. (source)

5. Teach Them That Their "Negative" Emotions Are Healthy
Nobody likes to be angry, or sad, or scared. These feelings ... well, they FEEL bad. But they are part of being a human, and learning that they are normal and going to happen is important for kids to understand. One great way to explain this to kids is when you are experiencing some of those emotions yourself, "See? Mom can be nervous about things, too! It's just part of life!"

6. Let Them Fail
Failure means you are taking chances, and we want our kids to go out there and LIVE life! If they aren't failing, they aren't trying new things and figuring out all of the fun things life has to offer. When they are sad that they've failed, see #5. (source)

7. Don't Compare Them to Each Other ... or to Their Friends
It can be tempting to offer up others as "examples." But I've found it's almost always best to resist that temptation. It's really hard to get that point across without making them feel like they are pigeonholed ... kids just tend to hear, "Oh, Sam is the one who is good at dunking basketballs, not me." Or whatever the well-intentioned comparison was.

8. Make Happy Memories
Seriously, this is a very real goal of mine. I want to MAKE happy memories for my boys. Maybe that means being goofy, doing something unexpected, planning special one-on-one time with them, etc. In the end, a day is a series of memories. Make them happy ones ... turns out, it can literally made them better adults. (source)

9. Be a Happy Parent
Ah, yes. This one. Often easier said than done. But modeling happiness for your kids is one of the best ways to encourage them to be happy themselves. And it's hard for kids to be happy when their parents aren't. So take care of yourself ... you know how when you're on a plane and the flight attendants tell you to put your own oxygen mask on first so that you're capable to taking care of your children? Same thing applies to happiness.

10. Don't Argue or Discuss Big Issues in Front of Them
Considering a big move? Having financial issues? Worried about Grandma? Little ears hear more than we realize, and times of concern and uncertainty can make kids feel unstable and worried. So keep those grown-up discussions under wraps, so kids can be kids. So they can spend their childhood being kids.

This parenting gig? It's hard. Nobody expects you to be perfect (and if they DO, they need to take a look in the mirror) ... we all make mistakes. But interjecting some nice cold, hard science into the mix is a nice way to feel good about the job you're doing.
