Principal's Corner |
Families,
Your presence is needed now more than ever! The teachers and our scholars have been working diligently to ensure that our scholars not only meet their end of year goals, but exceed them. Report card conferences begin this week. Please make sure that you use the links posted on the
homeroom pages to schedule a conference with your scholar's teachers. These meetings are designed to not only update you on your scholar's progress, but to answer questions and to equip you with tools needed to support your scholar at home. Please be reminded that attendance is mandatory. We are in this journey TOGETHER. I look forward to seeing you.
The journey continues,
Dr. Wheda A. Carletos, Ph.D.

Math Literacy Night
aka Family MATH Game Night
Please join us on Wednesday, February 24 from 5:30-7:00 PM for our 2nd Annual Family MATH Game Night!! It will be an evening of competition, laughter, and most importantly, learning! Bring your KVP scholars (and their siblings) to reinforce and challenge our math knowledge. Will you beat the Greedy Pig? Or will you be a Mind Reader? How about some Addition Fishin' ? You can even Dice-ercise for a healthy mind and body.
This year, come dressed in your homeroom college colors. The homeroom with the greatest percentage attendance will win a pizza party AND a Choice Dress day. Who will represent their class the best?
Come prepared to take home great ideas for family fun that incorporate math literacy. So scholars, turn off that video game and put away that tablet and let's learn!
We can't wait to see you!
End of the Year Trip Payments
Please review the informational flyer for your scholar's trip to ensure you are meeting the payment deadlines. For example, January 29 was the deadline to make the first payment of the payment plan for the second grade trip to Savannah. Please know that full payments will be accepted at any time as long as the final payment date is honored.

Are you the curious type?
Great! Then you'll love searching through our lost and found bins to find out just where your scholar's shirts, coats, sweaters, hats, jackets, cheerleading uniforms, pants, and socks have been hiding all this time. Drop by the Admin Hall on your next visit to see what's in our three red bins!

IMPORTANT - Current Student Registration |
Registration for current students will begin on February 11, 2016 and end on February 29, 2016.
NEW THIS YEAR: For all KIPP Metro Atlanta Schools, the absolute last day to register current students for the upcoming 2016 - 2017 school year is February 29, 2016 at 11:59 p.m. If you do not click submit to complete registration by then and still want your student to attend for the upcoming school year, you will need to fill out an enrollment application on the KIPP Metro Atlanta website by March 15, 2016 at 5:00 p.m. and enter the lottery with all other prospective families. If you fill out the application after March 15, 2016 at 5:01 p.m., you will go to the end of the waiting list and will not have any enrollment preferences. NO EXCEPTIONS. Please make sure that you complete the application as soon as possible to allow time for any problems that may arise. Applications that are not in the submitted status by February 29, 2016 at 11:59 p.m. will be considered void.
The process for current student registration will be as follows:
- Check your email on February 11, 2016. You should have received an email with the subject line "KIPP Vision Campus - Current Student Registration is Now Open". (If you do not receive one by 10:00 a.m., email TKnox@kippvisionacademy.org)
- The email contains a unique snapcode link for each student for registration. Click on the link to begin the registration application. Please note that all registration information and documents should be submitted online through the registration application.
- If you are applying for bus transportation for the 2016 - 2017 school year, (morning, afternoon, or after care), you must complete the section of the application for bus transportation by the current student registration deadline. There is not a separate application this year. Failure to complete this section may result in your student not having bus transportation for the 2016 - 2017 school year.
- Once you have completed the information section of the registration application, you will be taken to the documents upload page where you will need to upload the required documents listed below.
- Documents must be scanned, saved and then, uploaded. If you do not have a scanner at home, below is the link to a video tutorial for a free scanning app on phones and tablets named Cam Scanner. If you do not wish to use this resource or one similar to it, you can go to the KVC Parent Center, Office Depot, Staples, FedEx Kinkos or some libraries. Click here to watch a tutorial on how to use Cam Scanner and how to upload documents.
- Required Documents
- Government issued ID for enrolling parent and all emergency contacts
- Updated Immunizations for 6th and 7th grade students ONLY (FYI for KVP families with scholars at one of our middle schools)
- Proof of Residency
- Deed/Mortgage Statement/Lease (mortgage statements and leases must be dated within 30 days of submission date)
- Affidavit of Residency. The Affidavit of Residency must be notarized. We have notaries available on-site that can notarize documents for $5.00. Any documents that are notarized on-site can be scanned and uploaded for you.
- Georgia Power Bill (must be dated within 30 days of submission date)
- Two - Three Supporting Documents for Residency Verification (water bill, cable bill, phone bill, insurance bill, etc. - must be dated within 30 days of submission date). If you own or rent your residence, you need two supporting documents. If you live with someone else and your name is not on the lease or mortgage, you need three supporting documents.
IMPORTANT: Do not submit your application until you have uploaded all required documents. Once you submit the application, you will not be allowed to resubmit or make any changes.
Once you click submit, we will be able to access your current student registration application and documents. You do NOT need to come to the school and bring your documents as the final step. We will review applications and documents online and contact you directly if there is an issue with any of your submissions. Otherwise, you will receive an email once your application has been approved and no further steps are required.
For technical help, call the main office at 404.537.5252.

Tips for problem solving
- Think first to determine whether the action or behavior was on purpose or accident and whether there is a real threat or not.
- Try to talk out the difference, disagreement, or conflict
- If talking does not resolve the problem, then agree to disagree and walk away and stay away
- If you walk away and stay away but the problem continues or you think there is a real threat, then speak to an adult like the teacher
- Remember, sticks and stones, words are words.
- Remember, people say mean and cruel things that usually are not true to get you angry and upset. When you become angry and upset about these words, you have given the other person and acted the way the other person wants you to, giving them power and control over you. Don't allow yourself to be a victim and choose not to get upset about words that are probably not even true. If you stay calm and ignore these words, you are in control and have power over the situation.
- No matter what, follow the golden rule: Treat others as you want to be treated. In other words, treat everyone like a friend even if they are mean and do not treat you well. Many people treat others how those people treat them, so if you treat everyone like a friend, they will eventually gain respect for you and treat you like a friend too.
