It's Survey Time- You Could Win a TV! |
Parents, it's that time of year again, survey time! Each year, the KIPP Foundation and Georgia Department of Education surveys parents to determine areas where we are doing well and opportunities for growth. Because we value your input and feedback, our goal is to have a 100% participation rate. This year, both surveys are electronic and can be completed on a computer or mobile device.
Here's your chance to win a 42" flat screen TV!
To help us get to 100%, we have an opportunity for you to enter a raffle to win a 42" flat screen TV on December 18th and an opportunity for your scholar to attend a special celebration party. All you have to do is complete the steps below on or before December 16th!
- Click on the links below to complete the KIPP Foundation and Georgia CCRPI survey.
- KIPP Foundation Survey- We only need one survey per household per school, so for example, if you have two children attending the same KIPP school, you only need to fill out the survey once. However, if you have two children attending two different KIPP schools, you would need to fill out two surveys.
- Georgia CCRPI Survey- We only need one survey per household per school, so for example, if you have two children attending the same KIPP school, you only need to fill out the survey once. However, if you have two children attending two different KIPP schools, you would need to fill out two surveys.
- Take a screenshot or picture of the confirmation page after you complete each survey. You should have a minimum of two pictures.
- Click on the KIPP Vision Campus survey confirmation link and complete the form. On this form, you will enter your information and your scholar's information as well as upload the confirmation pictures from step 2.
- Completing this step on or before December 16th will enter you into the raffle and confirm your scholar's attendance at the celebration party.
- You must upload a minimum of one confirmation picture for the Foundation survey and a minimum of one for the Georgia CCRPI survey.
- If you have scholars that attend KVP and KVA, submit one confirmation form for your scholars at KVP and one for your scholars at KVA.
- If you need help or access to a computer, please come to the front office during school hours.
- All surveys and the KVC form can be completed on your cell phone as long as it has a camera and internet access.

Partners In Action |
As we close out the year 2015, let me take this opportunity to thank all of you for your support of our programs and activities over the past five months. Please be sure to get and keep handy your Parent Engagement/Journey Card when you come to school in the new year. You will receive a stamp anytime you visit and help in the classroom or attend school events here or off site. Our goal is not only to have you help your child earn his or her place on the end of the year field trips, but also to encourage you to be a partner in what we do here at KVP.
Holiday Gala, December 15, Impact Church, 5:30 - 7:30 PM
As stated on the homeroom webpages, we will have a whole group Kindergarten performance, a whole group 1st grade performance, and a whole group 2nd grade performance. We will also have a performance by the Sugafoot Dancers. We are not requiring the scholars to wear any specific attire. Anything they would wear to a holiday party or a special occasion will be just fine. KVP staff will be at the church to receive scholars by 5:00 PM.
If you missed the RSVP deadline, you may view the program from the overflow room at the church.

How to Talk to Your Child About What's Going on in the News
Television or internet coverage of upsetting events like natural disasters, terrorist attacks, or mass shootings can cause kids to worry that something similar could happen to them or their loved ones. It can also make them fear some aspects of everyday life - things that never worried them before. Help your child by putting the news in its proper context and addressing their concerns. Click here for a helpful article on how to start that conversation. If you are in emotional distress caused by recent events or know someone who is, find help with this free resource or by calling the Disaster Distress Hotline at 1-800-985-5990 or text TalkWithUs to 66746.

How do I help my child handle disappointment?
Disappointment is a difficult emotion to handle. All parents ultimately want children to be good sportsmen, take responsibility for their actions rather than blaming others, and be able to stand tall after their falls in life (both literal and metaphoric). Here are some essential guidelines to help children with this type of pain:
First, your goal must be to help them deal with the emotion, not "happy them up." "Happying them up" comes in many forms. It could be a distraction, a promise to buy a toy or taking them out for ice cream. This attempt to take the pain away can lead to adults who unconsciously graze through the refrigerator or use shopping sprees to deal with disappointment. Instead, we can provide empathy to help ease their pain and teach them that they can handle all that life brings to them.
1. Describe the feeling again.
2. Describe the disappointment or hurt.
3. Validate their feelings.
4. Offer assurance.
