It's Survey Time- You Could Win a TV!
Parents, it's that time of year again, survey time!  Each year, the KIPP Foundation and Georgia Department of Education surveys parents to determine areas where we are doing well and opportunities for growth. Because we value your input and feedback, our goal is to have a 100% participation rate.  This year, both surveys are electronic and can be completed on a computer or mobile device.

Here's your chance to win a 42" flat screen TV!

To help us get to 100%, we have an opportunity for you to enter a raffle to win a 42" flat screen TV on December 18th and an opportunity for your scholar to attend a special celebration party.  All you have to do is complete the steps below on or before December 16th!

  1. Click on the links below to complete the KIPP Foundation and Georgia CCRPI survey.
    1. KIPP Foundation Survey- We only need one survey per household per school, so for example, if you have two children attending the same KIPP school, you only need to fill out the survey once.  However, if you have two children attending two different KIPP schools, you would need to fill out two surveys.
    2. Georgia CCRPI Survey- We only need one survey per household per school, so for example, if you have two children attending the same KIPP school, you only need to fill out the survey once.  However, if you have two children attending two different KIPP schools, you would need to fill out two surveys.
  2. Take a screenshot or picture of the confirmation page after you complete each survey.  You should have a minimum of two pictures.
  3. Click on the KIPP Vision Campus survey confirmation link and complete the form.  On this form, you will enter your information and your scholar's information as well as upload the confirmation pictures from step 2.
    1. Completing this step on or before December 16th will enter you into the raffle and confirm your scholar's attendance at the celebration party.
    2. You must upload a minimum of one confirmation picture for the Foundation survey and a minimum of one for the Georgia CCRPI survey.
    3. If you have scholars that attend KVP and KVA, submit one confirmation form for your scholars at KVP and one for your scholars at KVA.
  4. If you need help or access to a computer, please come to the front office during school hours.
  5. All surveys and the KVC form can be completed on your cell phone as long as it has a camera and internet access.

Gone, but not forgotten!

"There is no passion to be found playing small in settling for a life that is less than you are capable of living."

"Money won't create success.  The freedom to make it will."

"EDUCATION is the most powerful weapon you can chose to CHANGE THE WORLD."

"WE owe our children, the most vulnerable citizens in our society, a life free of violence and fear."

- Nelson Mandela, 1918-2013

Family,

December 5th is important to me for TWO reason.  ONE...It is the day that I began my journey on this earth and my mission of fulfilling my purpose here on earth. With each birthday, I am reminded of just how blessed I am and I am humbled when I look back over my life and see just how much God has brought me through.  It truly is AMAZAING!!!!!!  I do not take any of it for granted and I look forward to what is ahead with great excitement and humility.  My life has been so unbelievably blessed thus far, I can't imagine what's coming next.

December 5th is also special to me because it marks the passing of a moral GIANT.  On December 5, 2013, the world lost a powerful force of a man.  A man whose grace, dignity, grit and strength could only be matched by his love and passion for justice and freedom.  NELSON ROLIHLAHLA MANDELA was a revolutionary and philanthropist who not only changed the political landscape of his country, but whose mere existence has left a mark in the WORLD that will never EVER be erased.

This week, please join me in remembering the life of this incredible man. My hope is that you see the passing of this guiding light as not just the loss of an incredible force, but as the PASSING OF THE TORCH.  I humbly accept the challenge and with honor receive the torch. Let's keep his light burning.

The journey continues,

KVP Holiday Gala, RSVP Deadline is December 10

This year, we will hold our holiday event at Impact Church on Tuesday, December 15, 5:30 - 7:30 PM. (Please note this date change.) We have changed the format a bit to make it more festive for all. So please come dressed in your finest holiday attire and come ready to enjoy light hors d'oeuvres, student performances, and to show your moves on the dance floor. So that all of our families may have a chance to enjoy this special evening, we have created specific RSVP guidelines for this event. Please be sure to read the form carefully before you submit.

On the day of the Holiday Gala, scholars will go home on their regular means of transportation and arrive at Impact Church with their families by 5:30 PM, dressed in festive attire.

Please do not feel you have to purchase anything new for this occasion.  As long as the scholars are in clothes they would wear to a party or special occasion they will be fine. Of course, if you want to go all out - do so!

PLEASE READ: New Parent Field Trip Participation Policy

Guidelines for parent attendance on field trips
  • You may attend a field trip with your scholar with prior approval from the field trip coordinator.  Due to limitations of group sizes for some venues, there will be some trips where parents will not be permitted to attend with their scholar.
  • With the exception of required parent chaperones, no other parents will be able to  ride on the school bus.
  • Parents who are required to chaperone their child and ride the school bus must sign a waiver.
  • Parents must pay the venues' standard admission fee.
  • Parents are not allowed to supervise any scholars other than their own on field trips.  This includes taking scholars to the restroom, chaperoning self-guided tour groups, taking scholars to gift shops/food courts, etc.
  • Parents are not allowed to check scholars out early from a field trip.  Scholars must return on the bus and they can be checked out from the school using the standard check-out procedures.
Noah's Ark Field Trip

This was our first whole school trip and we all feel it was a huge success. A big shout out to Ms. Vincent, Ms. Lattimore, and Ms. Dorsey for making over 300 sandwiches for our sack lunches! Another shout out to the parents who joined us on the trip.

We spent a wonderful day at Noah's Ark on Friday, eating our picnic lunches, playing in the huge play area, and of course seeing all the amazing animals at this unique animal sanctuary. Ask your scholar what the difference is between a sanctuary and a zoo!

Please continue to submit permission slips on time so that your scholar does not miss out on other opportunities.

How do I set limits with my child?

Conscious Discipline advises to use the acronym, A.C.T., to set limits and communicate with your child.

A - Acknowledge the child's feelings, wishes and wants.
C - Communicate the limit in terms of safety
T - Target acceptable behavior

There are several basic steps that can be used in the limit-setting process. The key factors in limit-setting are the understanding of the child's intention and motivation. Limit-setting works better when the adult acknowledges the child's feelings, wishes and wants, communicates the limits clearly, and targets acceptable behavior.
