Family,

It is always such a pleasure to walk into any of our classrooms - from Kindergarten to the 2nd grade hallway - and to see and hear our scholars "growing their brains".  KIPP Vision Primary School is and has always been a special place. We have created a school where scholars feel safe, where the time for instruction is sacred and where learning is fun.

In order to maintain the standard of EXCELLENCE that we demand at KVP and have come to expect for our families and our scholars, I must remind you of our discipline policy. There are certain behaviors that will ABSOLUTELY NOT be tolerated at KIPP Vision Primary School. These behaviors (listed in the KIPP Vision Primary School Handbook pgs.38-41) can and WILL LEAD to an IMMEDIATE consequence -which includes short-term suspension (3-5 days), long-term suspension (10 days) and in some cases expulsion (permanent removal from KIPP Vision Primary School).

1.     Destruction or Theft of PropertyDestruction of, theft of, and/or threats to destroy or damage or deface school, private, or public property will result in immediate disciplinary action ranging from short-term suspension to expulsion.

2.     Violence Violence at KIPP Metro Atlanta will not be tolerated. Verbal threatening, fighting or intimidating students with or without actual physical contact, an attempt to hurt another, or actions which cause reasonable fear of immediate bodily harm is defined as an "assault" and will result in penalties ranging from short-term suspension to expulsion.  Fighting or making physical contact of an insulting, offensive, or provoking nature with another student is defined as "simple battery" and will result in penalties ranging from short-term suspension to expulsion.  Students guilty of "aggravated battery" (maliciously causing bodily harm to another) or "aggravated assault" (an assault made with a deadly weapon or with an object or device that is likely to result in serious bodily harm) are subject to immediate expulsion.  Students who participate in a fight by running to an altercation or by encouraging others to participate are also subject to punishment ranging from detention to expulsion.  In addition to school sanctioned disciplinary actions, students may also be referred to the appropriate law enforcement agency.

3.    Rude or Disrespectful Behavior:  Students at KIPP Metro Atlanta are expected to operate with the utmost integrity at all times, and therefore discourteous or inappropriate language and/or behavior or gestures toward a staff member or student will result in penalties ranging from an in-class consequence to suspension. Consistent rude or disrespectful behavior may result in expulsion.

4.     Skipping Class:  Any student caught skipping class is subject to immediate consequences ranging from short-term suspension to expulsion. (This includes walking/running out of class and running in the hallway)

5.     Classroom Disturbance:  The value of "Scholarship" is of the utmost importance at KIPP Metro Atlanta, and therefore classroom disturbances will not be tolerated.  Any behavior that disrupts the instructional process, distracts students and/or teachers from classroom activities and studies, and/or creates a dangerous or fearful situation for students and/or staff will result in penalties ranging from a checkbook in-class consequence to short-term suspension.  Consistent disturbances may result in expulsion.

Any scholar found to be in violation of any of the above listed KIPP Metro Atlanta Policies will face immediate consequences and you will be required to pick your scholar up immediately.  I thank you for upholding your commitment to excellence and for working with us to maintain the quality of education and the experience that our scholars deserve. It's why you chose KVP and we appreciate you!

The journey continues.
