On September 5th our 94-year-old patient and WWII veteran, Amelia Jones, took the Honor Flight trip to Washington, DC accompanied by her volunteer, Priscilla. Hospice Savannah is proud to honor patients who served our country through our We Honor Veterans program, and we're so glad Mrs. Jones, veteran of the Army Air Corps, was well enough to visit the war memorials erected in her honor. Click here to see a news clip of Mrs. Jones filmed on the 70th anniversary of D-Day.

Volunteer Les Wilkes's photograph "Christmas in July" was selected as a 2nd place winner in the National Hospice and Palliative Care's annual Creative Arts Contest. Our patient, Mrs. Neverman, knew she would not live long enough to celebrate the holidays and so, together with her family, we arranged for Christmas to be enjoyed early - complete with caroling, decorations and Christmas cookies! Thanks to Les for sharing his talents so generously.

Volunteer Coordinator Christy and Social Worker Telecia worked tirelessly to ensure our homecare patient got tickets to see his all-time favorite musician, Garth Brooks, perform in Atlanta next week!
Christy says of the patient, "His hands were shaking. He still had a smile on his face when we left. The date is right between his wife's birthday and their anniversary...What a great feeling; this is why I love my job so much. I wish I could bring this much happiness to at least one person each day."

We thank Robert Smith and his tireless band of volunteers for hosting a wonderful day of golf at the Club at Savannah Harbor last month. The 11th Annual Robbie Smith Golf Outing was held in memory of Robert's son who had been our patient as a young man. Please contact our Foundation if you would like to host a fundraising event on our behalf. (Robert is pictured with our CEO, Debra Anthony Larson.)
