Humboldt & Del Norte Both in the Top 5 Prettiest Counties in the US
Humboldt and Del Norte Counties recently ranked #2 & #4 (respectively) in measurable natural beauty terms and its climate. That's #2 and #4 out of 3,111 counties in the U.S.!
Check out the Washington Post's "Every County in America, Ranked by Natural Beauty."
The sun shines through the trees giving an ethereal effect.
The rankings are based on the federal government's natural amenities index, "a measure of the physical characteristics of a county area that enhance the location as a place to live" combining "six measures of climate topography, and water that reflect environmental qualities most people prefer." We'll take that!

From the Commissioner:
We've had a BUSY summer! Since June, there has been a total of nine shoots in Humboldt and Del Norte counties.   This is a lot for a region that averages twenty a year! This is due in part to the California Tax Credit Program and to the fact that we have the necessary resources to help make your project happen! Below is a glimpse into one of our latest projects that took place in the redwood region this summer.

Humboldt & Del Norte Film Commissioner
Swiss Army Man
One of the most noteworthy productions wrapped last month, the independent feature film Swiss Army Man starring Daniel Radcliffe (best known for Harry Potter, The Woman In Black, and Trainwreckand Paul Dano (best known for Little Miss Sunshine, There Will Be Blood, and 12 Years A Slave). This is the first full length movie for the directing duo, DANIELS (Dan Kwan and Daniel Scheinert), who are best known for their award winning music videos (including DJ Snake and Lil Jon's Turn Down For What).

The six day shoot in Humboldt County is estimated to have brought in $83,200 direct dollars into the community. The film was shot entirely in California and is the recipient of the California Tax Credit Program.  According to the production, if it had not been eligible for the tax credit it would likely have filmed in another film incentive state like Georgia or Louisiana.
Producer Happy with Local Crew
Todd King, the line producer of Swiss Army Man, said he couldn't be happier with the local crew.  The production hired a location manager, caterer, production assistants, and onset medics from the area and were genuinely impressed with the quality of the work performed. King, also, found the Film Commissioner, Cassandra Hesseltine, extremely helpful and commented, "went the extra mile to make things happen."

Even with several productions going on at the same time, we received excellent feedback from producers and staff that we had enough crew this summer to go around, along with enough extras, equipment, facilities (production offices, etc.), accommodations, food and entertainment.
