A Message from our CEO
Count Your Blessings
One of my favorite Christmas movies is "White Christmas". I watch it every year and know most of it by heart. In one scene, Bing Crosby sings a song about what he does as an antidote when he is full of worry and can't sleep - he croons about 'counting my blessings'.
With all the uncertainty about our nation's fiscal concerns and the coming wave of baby boomers retiring, which will strain our healthcare systems, particularly Medicare and Medicaid, there is plenty to worry about in the field of Long-Term Care. In the face of that worry, I want to share with you some of the blessings at Lincoln Lutheran that gives me confidence in rising to this challenge.
We are blessed with a talented, committed Board of Directors. We are blessed with outstanding team members who serve people every day. We are blessed with prayers and support from our corporate church members. We are blessed with a tireless Auxiliary. We are blessed with hundreds of volunteers. We are blessed with a rich, deep history of accomplishment in this community. We are blessed with wonderful residents and service recipients who smile at us and lift up our hearts. We are blessed with serving partners like United Way of Racine County, Hospice Alliance, the Racine Dominicans and others. We are blessed with an intense desire to succeed in our mission, "Honor God by Serving People". We are blessed by you.
Do I still worry at times? The honest answer is yes. But every time I worry, I also count our blessings. Have a Merry Christmas. I wish you all the best in a happy, healthy New Year. Count your blessings.
Sincerely,
Dan Risch, CEO

Volunteer Spotlight
The Mother Bear Project
Nurturing is just one of the many words that can be used to describe a mother. This word is one that can truly be used to define the Knitting Club at Lincoln Villas North. Several amazing ladies from this affordable apartment community have taken it upon themselves and their passion for knitting and sewing to become part of the nationwide Mother Bear Project.
The Mother Bear Project is a non-profit organization that has managed to spread all across the globe. The Mother Bear Project sends handmade bears to children in Africa, primarily those affected with HIV/AIDS. Made with love, these bears send a message of comfort and hope.
"Some of these children never had a toy, a doll or a teddy bear," said Marlene, Knitting Club member.
Each bear is unique in its own way and made with compassion by these women.
The Knitting Club meets every week and currently hosts eight resident members. Beyond knitting, they crochet, sew and work on various craft projects. The group also volunteers at Lincoln Villas North running the grocery store and checking in people at lunch. The club is more than just knitting, it's a chance to connect, give back to the community, socialize and build friendships.

Programs and Services
With Grape Success
On November 15, the Service Coordinator Team held their 8th Annual Wine Tasting Fundraiser at Uncorkt in downtown Racine. Mark Paffrath, local entertainer, provided relaxing background entertainment while guests mingled throughout the evening. Nearly 50 patrons joined the Service Coordinator Team to enjoy a night of sampling a variety of different wines. Many area businesses contributed items for a silent auction, as well as artwork from local art students. Proceeds from the event netted nearly $3,000 which will go directly into the much needed Service Coordinator Program.
The Service Coordinators provide a most valuable service to seniors residing in our affordable/subsidized apartment communities. Working with residents one-on-one and in group settings, the Service Coordinator is instrumental in keeping our residents healthy, thriving and independent in their own home for so much longer.
A big "thank you" goes out to all who joined us at the event, donated items for the auction, sponsored expenses or donated monies in lieu of participation - all to help keep this valued program continuing in our communities.

The program provides new clothing, that is distributed to underprivileged youth in Racine County. This year over 1,100 children were provided with new gifts. |
 | | | Give the Gift of Support this Holiday Season
Make a difference in the lives of seniors we are honored to serve. You can designate the proceeds of your life insurance contract, annuity or other financial assets to help continue our service. Wills and Bequests are the most popular and personal way to making a difference beyond your lifetime. You can create a will bequest simply by directing in your will that your interest in certain money or property be transferred from your estate to designated charities. Contact the Agency Advancement Department at (262) 898-2731 to learn more. |
 | | | United Way Campaign
Not only does Lincoln Lutheran provide care for nearly 2,400 seniors in Racine, but it provides support for other local organizations in the community.
To inspire change for a better neighborhood, Lincoln Lutheran team members participated in a two-week long fundraising campaign to raise more than $7,500 for the United Way of Racine County. Employees got in the giving spirit with fun events and chances to win great prizes. |
