The cardiovascular system is truly an amazing engineering feat!  Did you know that if we laid out our blood vessels (all of our veins, arteries, and capillaries), they would go around the world twice? 

And in an average lifetime, each of our hearts pumps the same amount of blood as the water you would see if you left a kitchen faucet running full blast for 45 years!   Yet most of the time our systems work so well, we barely notice the heart's tireless effort to keep us alive and well.

A variety of things can keep the heart healthy - like diet and exercise.  And things can go wrong.  Our hearts often reflect how well we treat ourselves.  So, take good care of yours today!

We often think of a heart attack occurring like it does in the movies. The victim will suddenly grab his chest, fall to the floor, proclaims "I am having a heart attack," and passes out cold. So, when someone has chest pain and does not dramatically drop to the ground, people have a tendency to deny what is happening because they do not want to risk looking foolish by rushing to the hospital.
