Winter Holiday
December 2013
Holiday Wreath

Hanukkah came early this year and we are already well into the Christmas season.  If you have not finished your shopping yet, we have included our annual gift giving guide for an elderly person in your life.  But, don't forget to think of the caregivers on your list as well!

Winter can also spell stress and sometimes winter depression.  As we enter the winter season, remember there is nothing more important than taking good care of yourself!  Flu season mixed with snow and stress can wreak havok on your health.  This is a great time to pamper yourself and give yourself the gift of some "me-time."

SageMinder Staff wish you a
peaceful winter and a
very Merry Christmas!

Making a list and checking it twice, three or more times? That is what you may be doing if you find yourself trying to find just the right gift for an elderly loved one. Our parents can be very difficult to buy for - as we want to find just the right gift to let them know how very special they are.  And what about someone in our life who has dementia or Alzheimer's?

For many people, the holiday season is not necessarily a happy or joyous time. It can be stressful dealing with family emotions and holiday preparations - shopping, cleaning, decorating, wrapping, baking, attending holiday gatherings- you get it. Because of all the added duties, our stress level increases and our coping skills make a fast exit. Identifying specific triggers can help make your holidays more enjoyable.

Long nights, shorter days, and bitter cold can make anyone want to crawl back into bed and stay there with a good book all day. But, when symptoms of depression start to take over - either for yourself or your loved one - it may be due to a real disorder called "SAD" or "Seasonal Affective Disorder."
