From an article in Slate, taken from the Feedly RSS Reader;
"With a Name Like Xalkori ...
What would Don Draper make of Xalkori? Pfizer's lung cancer drug, released in 2011, has a name that would make an old-school ad wizard scratch his Brylcreemed head."
From Fast Company, quoting Colleen Parsons;
"In N.Y.C., my body is my car, and Stitcher is my car radio."
Editor's note; It is hard to get my non-Brylcreemed head around that quote.Optional Link

With all the "Back to School" buzz going on, I couldn't help but relate "Back to School" with "Back to Ad Club" as we start our 2013-2014 year. Although we're not kids (at least not all of us), it's fun to think of the similarities we share with the kids as they start a new school year and we start a new Ad Club year. 1) We get to re-connect with friends we haven't seen all summer 2) We get to make new friends 3) We get to learn new things 4) We get to eat lunch together 5) We get to share what we did on our summer vacation! Okay, not all of us get to share what we did on our summer vacation. But, there will be a lot of sharing at our first meeting about what's been going on with Ad Club over the summer. Here's just a glimpse: - The board approved a new education initiative that we'll be unveiling to you. We're excited to get it off the ground this year, as we'll be impacting approximately 100 high school students with "Real World" information and experience in the areas of Business, Advertising and Marketing. You won't want to miss this!
- Our Colors of Fall Committee will be sharing their plans for our upcoming Art Expo in September and they have a new program they'll be telling you about. Here's a hint...It's something about youth and art. Great combination, huh?! You'll also hear about discounted prices for Ad Club members to attend the VIP Reception. Now, how cool is that?
- Our Celebrity Celebration Committee always has something exciting going on. I mean "Bill Cosby"...that's pretty exciting for Great Falls, MT! Come and hear the latest and greatest on our Celebrity Celebration.
So, it's "Back to Ad Club" time. Time to enjoy each other and all the great opportunities we have before us this year. I look forward to seeing all of you at the Heritage Inn, 12:00 PM, September 4th!

Object de Boise
Enter to win
In spite of many great guesses, no one was within a country mile of identifying the amazing object we brought back from the Leadership conference in Boise back in July. Give it some thought and shoot me your best guess and if you are right, it is yours. And no Max, the object is not a chicken.

Stop Workplace Drama Workshop
Ad Club worked with Mark Willmarth of Vision West to bring nationally recognized speaker, Marlene Chism, to Great Falls on August 14th. The crowd of 172 attendees walked away with a great set of tools for dealing with the drama that we all face in our personal and professional lives. Chism, the author of "Stop Workplace Drama" had everyone on the edge of their seats. It was a great opportunity for Ad Club to demonstrate that our mission statement, "Ad Club/AAF - Great Falls is an award winning organization dedicated to furthering effective advertising, marketing, and public relations" is more than words on a page, it is a goal that we work toward every day.

Website Refresh
Fresh is good
Be sure to take a look at gfaf.com. Pam Parsons was kind enough to provide input as to what was useful to her as a member. The front page now has all the upcoming events in chronological, that's logical, order. It gives a synopsis, date and location. No need to dig through the site to find out where you are supposed to be. Feel free to send feedback to the webmaster. I like feedback and cookies, send either or both. There is also a "Golly, you are smart" award for anyone that identifies the wallpaper on the screen behind the browser window.
