Heard at a meeting
Acceptance is the final frontier.
* * * Okay, God...whatever! * * * I don't care how long it takes. I deserve to come out on the other side of this.
The same way the name of our program is abbreviated AFG, our program can be abbreviated with AFG: Accept, Forgive, Gratitude.
* * * I've been resistant to almost every good thing that has come into my life, including Al-Anon.
* * * I grabbed on to program like only the drowning can.
* * * I need to learn to let go of what was SUPPOSED to happen in my life.
I feel like I was a tic on the side of the path waiting for a host animal to come along.
* * *
I don't live with active alcoholism. I live with active "thinking"!
* * *
Dear God, If you can't do it MY way, can You at least give me an explanation of why you can't?

Dear Al-Anon or Alateen Member,

Recovery In Our Own Words
We have not received a recovery story for this month's issue. These stories come from our own DIstrict 14 members. Over 500 Al-Anon members now receive this newsletter on a monthly basis. This Recovery section is for members to share their own stories in their own words. Just two or three paragraphs are needed. And don't worry about grammar and punctuation. That's what we have an editor for. Share from your heart. The easiest way to share your story is to send something you've already written down in your journal or to write down what you just shared at a meeting, either as a speaker or just as a member share. Nothing fancy. Just your own experience, strength, and hope. Remember that this newsletter goes to many who have not yet found the courage to attend a meeting. Please take a few minutes and send a share to the email address below. Please consider being a blessing to your fellow Al-Anon members.
Please send your submission to: Linda W district14newsletter@yahoo.com

A MESSAGE FROM DAY IN AL-ANON 2014
Hello, I am Rick P, DIA 2014 Chairperson, with the following appeal, or for those who are of a less codependent orientation, opportunity. Day in Al-Anon 2014 is reaching out to all who are interested in being a part of this annual event. The theme for the 2014 gathering is Sharing from the Heart. In keeping with this theme there will be a series of forums, in lieu of workshops, on a variety of Al-Anon topics and issues. Some of my ideas include forums involving ACA's, parents, slogans, step(s), higher power, relationships and whatever else the group decides. Each forum will consist of three speakers and there is room and time for eight to ten forums. This will require up to ten secretaries and thirty speakers and will provide us with an opportunity to tap into the vast resources our district has to offer. The DIA 2014 will in all likelihood be held the week before or the day after Valentine's Day providing a real creative outlet for those interested in decoration(s). But I need help. Almost all coordinator positions are still open and chief among them are a forum coordinator(s) and a co-chair. There will be a coordinator meeting on April 28th at 2:00 pm at my home; 545 Van Buren Place, San Ramon, Ca 94583. For more information please contact me @ (925) 577-9902.

Annual District Budget was adopted. Our treasurer announced that we have well over $10,000 in unallocated reserves. This money can be used for bolstering up our Al-Anon program in District 14. Groups and members are encouraged to think up new ideas about how we might use this money to spread the word. We can also support Al-Anon in its Institutions and/or Public Outreach domains. Please submit your ideas through your group GR.
- Monthly Speaker Meetings. For openings for host groups. please contact Sandy H. at 925-642-9909 to volunteer your group. Remember, smaller groups can join forces to host a meeting together, and there are very detailed guidelines with timelines included to guide you through the process if this is new to your group. December 28th is still OPEN for 2013 (note this is AFTER Christmas) and dates in 2014.

Reflections from the Forum
Past Reflections
Faith is not a guarantee against trouble, but against defeat. Sept 1978, Norma N., Moorhead, MN
Al-Anon's monthly magazine, The Forum, contains many personal stories of inspiration. Click on this link to subscribe to receive your own monthly "Meeting in Your Pocket." Only $11.00 a year.
Current Forum articles:
In the middle of the night I trust the light will come around again...
I got up in the middle of the night last night and stubbed my toe. I wanted to scream, but screaming would have startled my sleeping wife, scared the dog, and would not have accomplished anything for me.
My aching toe made me think of how my behavior "in the middle of the night" relates to how I work this program...
She carried the message to the end...
It was one of the darkest times of my life. By the age of 36, I had been married and divorced twice, had numerous committed relationships fail, and my latest relationship with an alcoholic was falling apart.
My son was eight years old, and we had moved 15 times in his life span...
In my early recovery, "pretending" was one of my biggest problems. I was so lost in denial that I didn't even know that pretending was denial's big sister.
I pretended because I had lost touch with the real me. I struggled to find my opinion, my likes, my dislikes, and my purpose in life.
