Welcome to the Shiloh Staff Ride as part of the National Staff Ride Workshop! We're expecting about 70 participants altogether -- Cherokee and Asheville IHCs and 5 staff ride development teams. This is the first of four e-mails you'll receive to help guide your preliminary study for the Battle of Shiloh staff ride. For staff ride development teams, this is an example of what we recommend you do to help get participants ready for your staff rides.
- Preliminary Study
- Field Study
- Integration
We are all in the preliminary study phase, so as we get closer we will send you some thoughts periodically to help you think about the leadership challenges faced by our colleagues 155 years ago.
Once we meet in Corinth MS on Monday 23 January, we'll have participant guides for each of you. Please read the Introduction to the guide now. Can you relate to the operating conditions described by Private Henry Morton Stanley as he "deployed shelter"? How about Captain Frank Posegate? What do you think about his decision to disobey the orders of his Colonel...and order his unit to abandon the fire-line and move along their escape route to a safety zone? In this case, Stanley was part of the "fire" that caused Posegate to act decisively to save his organization.
How does this relate to your leadership in your environment?
That's the kind of stuff we'll talk about on the ground where these actions took place.
A LOGISTICS NOTE from Stu Rodeffer, our Logistics Section Chief...

Hampton Inn Corinth 2107 Highway 72 West, Corinth, Mississippi, 38834, USA TEL: +1-662-286-5949 Transportation: Both Enterprise and Avis have confirmed they have multiple mini vans and large passenger vans at the Memphis Airport locations, should development teams like to team up to save on rental car costs. We recommend minimizing the number of rental vehicles on the staff ride. All participants need to be sure you have ground transportation throughout the week.
We look forward to learning with you!
