UPDATE #2 for U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service National Fire Management Strategic Workshop's Fredericksburg-Chancellorsville Staff Ride.
We are now about a month out from the field study phase of the staff ride. Two weeks ago you should have received an announcement to guide your preliminary study. Last week you should have received our welcome e-mail providing an updated schedule. Please forward this to any of your colleagues who have not yet registered, and invite them to register on our website.
Since you've had a couple weeks of preparation time in expectation of the staff ride, here are some things to ponder:
1. What are the names of the chief commanders on the field of battle at Fredericksburg whose photos are shown in the header to this e-mail? Just name them now from left to right.
2. Of those commanders, which ones participated again as chief commanders at the Battle of Chancellorsville?
3. Of those who did not participate at Chancellorsville, why didn't they?
4. Which of these commanders do you personally associate with the most? Why that one?
5. Do the personality types of any of these leaders remind you of anyone in your organization?
6. Does your organization most closely resemble the Army of the Potomac or the Army of Northern Virginia in personal and organizational dynamics?
7. Here's a short read you may find helpful in understanding some of the human topography, leadership, and character.
