This is our third weekly update sent to all registered participants.  If you would like to read past e-mail updates on Shiloh, they will be posted to our archive page.

In your preliminary reading of Shiloh - In Hell Before Night by James Lee Mcdonough, you may recall that both Ulysses S. Grant and Albert Sidney Johnston moved to the front -- to the "point of friction" or to the "point of main effort" -- on the 6th of April.  How would you compare or contrast their leadership styles?

How about on the fireline or wherever the action is occurring on an incident of any type.  As a mid-level leader, how do you feel when the incident commander "walks the line"?  Can you think of times when a senior leader's presence was welcomed and served as a real morale booster?  Can you think of times when the senior leader's presence was a real detriment to operations?  What techniques do you use when you "walk the line"?  How far forward do you think a senior leader should be in different situations? Should an incident commander stay at the command post or travel freely about?  While we're at it, what about those concepts of "command and control"  what's the difference between the two from your perspective?

We look forward to learning with you!
