January 2016

This month's newsletter is focused on change. Many  feel that tug at our insides when it is time to make a major change or work on some big decisions. We are working on some big changes in our world and expect you are too! How serious you take the planning will determine how serious you take the change. Maybe it's time to get out on the big road and really make some miles rather than stay on the winding path that many of us are on. If that's you, then get the pencil out and lets go!

Get off country road and
head out on the big road!

Another year has come and gone and many of us are sitting around wondering what to do with our lives for the future. Do you start the old habit of New Year's Resolutions, you know the ones that don't usually work after a few weeks? The problem with most New Year's Resolutions is that they are more short term in nature. It's the equivalent of being in one town and planning to get to the next without problems. You can take that winding road, plan out your breakfast, buy your gas, and the road should take you to the destination no problem.

Now we all know as professional drivers that even though the winding road is often beautiful and relaxing, it isn't the most efficient way to get across the country. The same thing happens with new goals and a new year. Resolutions are fine if you want to lose a few pounds or save for a vacation, but if you need a big change then you need to do some major goal setting. That is the equivalent of getting on the big road.

If we were to take a trip across the country we wouldn't just put a list together and call it complete. We would need to check map books, weather maps and such. We might need hotel reservations, food stops, and other items. A major change may require months of planning and research to complete a smooth transition or trip across the country.

To this you have to be relaxed and diligent about what you will need for the change to happen. Once you have made a list or searched out important facts leave time for reflection and editing so other ideas come into your mind. If you really want the change to happen everything will fall into place. Your job is to help make it a smooth transition.

We recently re-branded our company for the same reason as above. We have had growth over the years but it felt as though we were on this winding road, stopping to see new places, and discover new people. At the same time I felt our growth in the company could have been double what we have experienced. For that to happen in the future we have had to make some serious changes, in effect getting out on the highway and making some real tracks. We began that planning at the end of October. The larger time that you take to plan, the more serious you will be to follow the changes through. You can check out our re-brand on our website at www.bruceoutridge.com .For a true change to work it has to be investigated and there are some upcoming seminars to help in that area.

If you are a driver looking to improve your career, or a manager looking to improve their team  then we have some upcoming events that will help you with that. For managers or team leaders the TTSAO ( Truck Training Schools Association of Ontario) will be holding their first annual conference on recruiting and retention on February 23-24, 2016. You can learn more at www.ttsao.com.

I am happy to partner with Road Today Magazine as we re-brand and launch their seminar series called Smart Trucker. This series will have various locations throughout Ontario helping drivers and owner operators be better at their careers and businesses. Check out my website www.bruceoutridge.com or www.roadtoday.com for dates in your areas.

Finally realize it is time to get serious about your future as life is too short to not live it to the fullest. We are excited about our re-brand and wish you all the luck in the world on whatever changes you decide to make in your life. Happy New Year and may 2016 be successful and carefree for all.
