New Handicraft Pavilion at Resica Falls

The Eibner Handicraft Pavilion is coming together nicely.
We look forward to our Scouts enjoying this new program facility this summer!

There's still time to sign-up for a summer adventure!
New Cradle of Liberty Council Website
The council website, www.colbsa.org, is getting a much-needed makeover this summer. Many months of input from volunteers, staff, and a professional design firm will make the website more responsive to the needs of prospective and existing youth and families, adult leaders, and community supporters. The expected launch date is mid-August, so stay tuned!

Bring-A-Friend to Join the Adventure!
Scouts and Venturers who recruit a friend (or friends!) to join Scouting from January 1 to June 29, 2016 are eligible to receive this fully-embroidered 3" patch with button loop. The application and national registration payment for the new Scout or Venturer must be received by the Cradle of Liberty Council by Wednesday, June 29, 2016 by 4:30 PM.
Patches will be mailed to the recruiters by July.

Congratulations to the units listed below for achieving the World Series of Scouting incentive for recruiting and registering the greatest number of youth in their district between April 15 and May 15, 2016! Each unit will receive $75 in their custodial accounts for Scout Shop purchases, summer camp payments, camp reservations, or any district or council activities.

We'll be having another round of this incentive for the top unit in each district that recruits the most new youth members between May 16 and June 15. All new applications must be submitted to the council office by June 15 in order to qualify. This includes Webelos-to-Scout transfer applications for Boy Scout troops!
Also, the top pack, troop and crew/ship in the council that has the greatest percentage growth in their youth membership this year will also be given the opportunity to take their unit to a Philadelphia Phillies or minor league baseball team game of their choice in July or August!

Career Exploring Programs

We deliver character-building experiences and mentorship that allow youth to achieve their full potential in both life and work.

Exploring is a program for young men and women ages 14 (and have completed the eighth grade) through 20 years old. Exploring's purpose is to provide opportunities to see behind the scenes in some of Greater Philadelphia's most visible businesses and popular careers. Teens work directly with professionals from these high-profile businesses to get hands-on work experience and a head-start on their future careers. Exploring builds a dynamic relationship between teens and the organizations in their communities. The result is a program of activities that helps teens pursue their special interests, grow, and develop.

Registration is now active for the 2017 National Jamboree which will take place from July 19-28 2017 at The Summit Bechtel Reserve in West Virginia, which is the fourth National BSA High Adventure Base. Cradle of Liberty Council intends to take ten contingent troops and one crew to the Jamboree. The Jamboree Band is now forming and is looking for musicians. Scouts and Venture scouts ages 16 - 25 may apply. To be in the Jamboree band you need to play at a high school level or better. The Jamboree staff band will supply music for ceremonies, events, concerts, arena shows, and will entertain the many thousands of scouts and visitors to the 19th National Jamboree. Repertoire will include popular and patriotic music, marches, and pep band tunes. Scout/musicians who can double on set, guitar, bass and keyboard are also needed for the 16 piece jazz/rock band.  Adults (26 and up) may apply, however initial preference will go to youth staff ages 16 - 25. For information about the band and how to apply, please visit www.colbsa.org/jamboband  or  email the band director George.Pinchock@villanova.edu

2016 National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT)
National Youth Leadership Training is an exciting, action-packed program designed for councils to provide youth members with leadership skills and experience they can use in their home troops and in other situations demanding leadership of self and others.

National Youth Leadership Training incorporates the latest leadership ideas and presents fresh, vital and meaningful training for today's Scouts.

The NYLT course centers around the concepts of what a leader must BE, what he must KNOW, and what he must DO. The key elements are then taught with a clear focus on HOW TO. The skills come alive during the week as the patrol goes on a Quest for the Meaning of Leadership.
Cradle of Liberty Council is offering four National Youth Leadership Training courses in 2016.

The patches are $10 each plus postage and available by using the attached order form. All proceeds support Eagle Scout Scholarships that are awarded each year at the Eagle Dinner. Cradle of Liberty Council Venturing 2015 - 2016
Many Boy/Girl Scouts join Venturing for the fun, high adventure activities, and the opportunity to grow and learn with an older age group. 14 - 21 year olds work in a COED environment to plan and carry out the activities that they choose. Male and female advisors support these efforts, but the youth decide what they want to do and how they will make it happen.
The VOA (Venturing Officers Association) is open to all Venturers. Meetings are held from 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM the first Tuesday of each month at Scout Headquarters in Valley Forge. At these meetings, trip ideas are shared, friends are made, and the VOA Spring Weekend is planned. Venturing Adults are invited to participate in the advisor roundtable meeting across the hall at the same time.
