 2016 Camp Card Update!

The 2016 Camp Card Sale is coming to a close. Reminder your units that the money and unused cards are due June 17th! Looks like we have had a good sale and a few drawing winners in our district! But it's not over yet! Looking forward to getting in our final totals!

2017 National Jamboree!

Calling all Troops!

Registration is now active for the 2017 National Jamboree which will take place from July 19-28 2017 at The Summit Bechtel Reserve in West Virginia. The cost for youth is $1,545 which includes transportation, food, equipment, and just about everything you will need. Campership money for those in need of assistance is available. The two step registration process to sign up for the Jamboree is described below:

First utilize this link http://www.summitbsa.org/events/jamboree/jamboree-registration/ to sign up on the National site. This will require a My.Scouting user name and password, go to www.my.scouting.org to create a password if you do not yet have one. Remember the account needs to be in the name of the person attending the Jamboree, not the parent, and the account has to be linked to the scout's membership id number. Chrome or Firefox are the best browsers to sign up.

After you have signed up on the National System, then submit a Request to Attend Form, which can be found on the Council website, to Cradle of Liberty Council, 1485 Valley Forge Road, Wayne, Pa 19087, with all signatures and an initial payment of $245. You will need the Jamboree Registration Code that you receive from National once you sign up on their site. Further payments of $100 per month can be made by credit card through Doubleknot on the Council website.

There is one troop with 36 spots available for Conestoga District Scouts and sign ups have started, so please don't delay. For questions please contact Steve Perrone Sperrone@ppciga.org

2017 National Jamboree Invite

The first meeting of the National Jamboree Troop will be Sunday June 5, 2016 at 4 PM at Covenant United Methodist Church, 212 West Springfield Road, Springfield Pa 19064.Our next meeting after that will be in September 2016 and from then on, we will meet once a month through June 2017.

Meetings will initially be one hour, once a month, and always on a Sunday at 4 PM as we have found that is the day and time that has the least conflicts with any District troops meetings. At our first meeting you will have the chance to meet the other scouts that have signed up, and the four leaders who will be taking you to the Summit

We still have approximately twelve openings in our troop so if you want to learn more about the Jamboree but are still unsure if you want to go, stop by and get a feel if this is for you. Scouts that will be twelve years old by July 2017 are eligible to attend. Please wear your class A Uniform.

Please contact me at any time if you have questions.

2016 Conestoga Chuck Wagon and Celebration Dinner
Good afternoon all,

I wanted to pass you all a reminder of our District Dinner aka Chuck Wagon to be held on June 14th (normal Roundtable night) at 6:45pm at  Leedom Estates; home of Troop 339, Pack 339 and soon to be Crew 339.  The Scout Cabin is at the corner of Rodney and Darby Roads in Leedom, PA.  All Conestoga Leaders are invited and encouraged to attend so please tell your other leaders within the Unit!

The earlier start time is so we can have it closer to dinner and for ample sunlight for awards and fellowship.  Troop 339 will be setting up a fire and also the Chuck wagon for the evening so get ready for a good time and some good eats.

Scott Mann and Mark McKellar - our dinner chairs - have let me know that we will be having Chuck Wagon Chili that evening and they will be providing that.  However, we will need some side dishes to accompany that main dish.  I am asking all of you for your help in this so that we will have enough food to go around!  It would be appropriate to make for about 30 people.  Dishes we will need are:

Baked Beans
Potato Salad
Coleslaw
Green Salad
Mac n Cheese
Cornbread
Dutch Oven Desserts
Corn on the Cob
Roasted Potatoes
Drinks
Etc.

Please write back to me ASAP with what you are able/willing to bring and let's cap off our wonderful year of Scouting on top!  I need a response no later than Friday, June 3rd.  As the RSVP's come in I will mark them down and make sure we do not have too many repeats.

Thank you all and remember all leaders are invited to attend!

Parent's Perspective

Hello all! Welcome to our new section called "Parent's Perspective". Here we want to share and inspire! Whether it is a story about the boys, the unit, or share an idea. So spread the word to your scout parents! Need an example or inspiration?

Tigers get it too!
I was at one of my son's den meetings. There was a boy with a speech issue. He stood up and spoke with a little issue but not a major problem. When he sat down one of the boys made an unkind comment about this boy. Before parents or leaders were able to speak up, about 5 of his fellow Tigers spoke up defending him and shutting this down without any further issue. So proud of what are boys are becoming!

OR

Hiking our way through Spring!
Our family hasn't had any real opportunities to get out and into nature. So when our Den had their first hike, my son was SO excited. When he came home, he was tired but loved the bugs and frogs and turtles. He still talks about it all. We are looking forward to more hikes this summer and fall!
Scout's Stories
A lot like the Parent's Perspective, we are looking for those of our boys who are interested in writing, blogging, and/or journalism. We want to hear from them! What do the like? Suggestions for improvements? A leader they want to give props to? Thank their parents? Praise another scout? Want to share how they have grown? We are here for all scouts! Let them share and inspire us!

DE's Note
It is hard to believe that this month will be 11 months in the Conestoga District!  We have done a ton of great things that have truly shown the rest of the Cradle of Liberty Council who we are:

-First District to 100% Pledged in the Friends of Scouting Campaign (with no volunteer Chair)
*if you would still like to donate please go to; colbsa.org/donate

-Only District with a Bullying forum and summer program (which will tie in with Summer Time Pack Award) for our Scouts to learn bullying safety and awareness

-Collecting over 11K in Scouting for Food Donations in one down!

Let's keep this Wagon Train Rolling and making great strides...thank you for all that you do and we shall talk soon.
