Congratulations to Our Silver Beaver Award Recipients!
|
Hundreds of the Cradle of Liberty Council Family came out to honor this year's class of Silver Beavers and other deserving Scouts and Scouters on
April 20 in King of Prussia.
The Silver Beaver Award is the highest national award that a local council can present, and is reserved for volunteers who have made a transformational impact on the lives of youth. We'll have photos from the event posted soon in our photo gallery.
To all of our fantastic volunteers, the Cradle of Liberty Council salutes you for your service to Scouting and the youth we serve. Thank you!

How Your Unit Can Knock It Out of the Park in Three Easy Steps this Spring!
- Check Your Unit Roster: Are all your active players registered? Your unit leader, committee chair, and chartered representative have access to your current unit roster through My.Scouting.org. You can also work with your unit commissioner or district professional to conduct a roster check.
- Hold a Recruitment Event: Set a date, time, location, and contact person for an open house or other recruitment event. The council provides recruitment materials and support free of charge. Work with your district membership chair or professional to make arrangements. You can also submit recruitment event info here (coming soon).
- Submit New Youth Applications: Turn-in applications to your district professional or the Scouting Resource Center no later than June 15. This ensures new recruits are properly registered and qualify to receive advancements and attend summer camp, as well as for your unit to qualify for rewards.
Please work with your district membership chairs and professionals to develop a Spring Recruitment Plan (including a date, time and location for a recruitment). If you have any questions, please reach out to membership@colbsa.org.

Lions & Tigers & Bears, Oh My!
|
The Cradle of Liberty Council is pleased to announce that it has been selected by National Council to participate in the next level of pilot testing for the Lion Cub Scout program beginning this fall. Lions is a Boy Scouts of America pilot program created to introduce boys age 5 or in Kindergarten to the wonders and adventure of Cub Scouting. Like Tigers, Lions must have an "adult partner" with them at all times to help and guide them through the program. A Lion Parent and Leader Guidebook and a Lion Adventure Book with fun, age-appropriate indoor and outdoor activities will be available for Cub Scout packs selected by the council membership committee to participate in the pilot. Per the Guidebook, Lion dens and their adult partners are to meet twice per month, once for a den meeting and a second time for a den outing or pack meeting. Lions are not expected to attend all pack meetings and pack activities, nor are they expected to participate in pack fundraisers. The purpose of the program is to introduce families to Scouting, encourage positive interaction between Scouts and adults, and to enhance family quality time. For more information, please check out the Lion Pilot Overview. If your pack would be interested in participating in this pilot with a den of six to eight Lion pairs, or if you have any questions about the program, please contact David Bryan, Cradle of Liberty Lion Program Staff Advisor, at david.bryan@scouting.org or 484-654-9210.

Friends of Scouting Campaign
|
The Family Friends of Scouting Campaign is organized to encourage all parents/guardians of Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Venturers, and unit volunteers to enroll as financial supporters of the programs and facilities of the Cradle of Liberty Council.
This is a voluntary enrollment and is not a condition of membership in Scouting. Friends of Scouting gifts are above and beyond national registration fees and local dues, which do not directly support the local council. Instead of charging a fixed cost to support council operations, this campaign gives families the opportunity to contribute at a level of their own choosing according to their interest and ability to give. All that we ask is for 10 minutes at a unit meeting between January and April to tell the story, explain the need, and make the ask. New for 2016: Families may join the inaugural Liberty Society by making a monthly recurring contribution starting at $15 per month using their credit or debit card. Recurring giving is more convenient for donors, especially those who give year after year, and will provide a more efficient system for processing payments. Please visit www.colbsa.org/donate f or more information about the campaign, including the Unit Leader Guide. If your unit hasn't already, you should consider appointing a unit Friends of Scouting coordinator and schedule your 2016 family presentation. Your unit Friends of Scouting coordinator may schedule a presentation online. Thank you for your continued support!

Reflecting the best of over a century of Scouting experience, the course also draws upon the most current leadership models used by corporate America, academic circles, and successful outdoor leadership organizations throughout the country.

2016 National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT)
|
National Youth Leadership Training is an exciting, action-packed program designed for councils to provide youth members with leadership skills and experience they can use in their home troops and in other situations demanding leadership of self and others.
National Youth Leadership Training incorporates the latest leadership ideas and presents fresh, vital and meaningful training for today's Scouts.
The NYLT course centers around the concepts of what a leader must BE, what he must KNOW, and what he must DO. The key elements are then taught with a clear focus on HOW TO. The skills come alive during the week as the patrol goes on a Quest for the Meaning of Leadership. Cradle of Liberty Council is offering four National Youth Leadership Training courses in 2016.

Cradle of Liberty Council Venturing 2015 - 2016
|
Many Boy/Girl Scouts join Venturing for the fun, high adventure activities, and the opportunity to grow and learn with an older age group. 14 - 21 year olds work in a COED environment to plan and carry out the activities that they choose. Male and female advisors support these efforts, but the youth decide what they want to do and how they will make it happen.
The VOA (Venturing Officers Association) is open to all Venturers. Meetings are held from 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM the first Tuesday of each month at Scout Headquarters in Valley Forge. At these meetings, trip ideas are shared, friends are made, and the VOA Spring Weekend is planned. Venturing Adults are invited to participate in the advisor roundtable meeting across the hall at the same time.
For more information and a list of calendar events, click here
Did you hear? Sea Scouting is the newest independent program in Scouting! From 1998 through this past February, the Sea Scouting program was part of Venturing. For more information about the change, please read this Bryan on Scouting article.
