Commissioners College

March 28, 2015

I'd like to Congratulate Frank Reppert and Paul Bendixen in completing their Bachelors Degree of Commissioners Science and Steve Bruccoliere on his continuing education receiving his Advanced Studies Degree. I attended taking select Advanced Studies toward a Doctorate and also providing training for two classes. It was exciting to be able to be part of the Training Staff after years of participating as a student. This was a great show of commitment to make our Lafayette Commissioners Corps as effective as possible in delivering the support that our Units need to deliver a quality program to the Youth of Lafayette District. Thank you to the Commissioners who attended.  If you didn't make it this year you may want to seriously consider attending in the future. The Commissioner College is a great day of learning and sharing knowledge with your peers, not only from Cradle of Liberty Council but also from surrounding Councils as well. The exchange of experience and knowledge is invaluable.

Lafayette District Pinewood Derby 2015

Joe Domin

District Pinewood Derby 2015

On Saturday March 28th, 63 cub scouts representing 19 packs attended the Lafayette District Pinewood Derby Championships.  The event was held at Grace Lutheran Church in Royersford.  Boy Scout Troop 406 took on hosting duties this year, and by all accounts the day was a great success.  Usually a cub pack hosts the championships, but this year Troop 406 stepped up and did a fantastic job.  All of the cub scouts represented their packs well.  They also had fun answering questions and being "interviewed" between races.  After 2 hours of racing the winners were announced and received their trophies.  Attendees were also asked to donate food to Project Outreach in Royersford.

1st Place:  Andrew C. -  Wolf -   Pack 230 -  "Speed Bandit"
2nd Place: Zach P. -       Wolf -   Pack 531 - "Zing to the Zang to the B"
3rd Place: Dorian L. -    Bear -   Pack 524 - "Golden Bullet"

Top Tiger: Jesse H. -                  Pack 369 - "Lightning Bullet"

Around the Tree--Meet Our District Executive, Tesha Omeis

Orginally from Howard, Pa, Tesha went to Penn State University to study Environmental Education.  She started her Scouting experience in 2002 by assisting with merit badges and cub scout advancement at the Shaver's Creek Environmental Center.  Between 2006-2013, she served  for five summers as the Ecology Director at Camp Mountain Run for the Bucktail Council in DuBois, Pa.  During the school years of that period of time, she developed curricula for merit badge instruction and taught classes in Alabama with the Black Warrior Council.  Since 2001, she has educated youth in Connecticut, New Mexico, Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, Pennsylvania, and Ohio!  When not scouting, you can find Tesha outside enjoying every season and what it has to offer!

Do you have something you would like to see in the Lafayette Leaf!

Would you, your scout, your Pack, your Troop or your Crew love to be featured in the "newspaper" that is in the hands of 1200 Scouters?  Did your Unit do something really awesome?  Did your Scout complete his Eagle project? Or Eagle Court of Honor.

Email your pictures, articles, blurbs etc. to  tomshaw@comcast.net for publication.
