 Calling All SPL's!

The Lafayette District is asking the Senior Patrol Leaders from the Troops in the district to come out to discuss district programs such as Klondike Derby, Merit Badge College, and Spring and Fall Camporees at our monthly Round Table Meeting.

The next SPL Meeting is scheduled for the January Round Table Meeting at the JP Mascaro's office on Audubon Rd in Audubon, on

 September 10th at 7:30 pm

This is a great way to introduce our young leaders to other young leaders and get Troops involved in District Activities.  Please get this message out to your SPL! If the SPL cannot make the meeting, please have them send a scout to represent their troop at these meetings.

WHO SHOULD COME TO ROUNDTABLE-By Kim  Motsek

EVERYONE SHOULD COME TO DISTRICT ROUNDTABLE!

Scout Masters, Cub Masters, Assistant Scout Masters, Den Leaders, Committee Chairs, Committee Members, Senior Patrol Leaders or their representatives, OA Members and Parents!

WHY? Because there is always something to be learned or information you need there! Even things you don't know you need!

Where and When:

Lafayette District Roundtable

2nd Wednesday of the month, September through June.

Media Center, J.P. Mascaro Building, 2650 Audubon Rd, Audubon, PA

In September,

Lafayette District has had their re-charter date moved to November 26! No bending on this date!  ALL re-charters need to be in by the Wednesday before Thanksgiving - Nov. 26.  In order to help you get this done, there will be a workshop at September's Roundtable to explain changes and help you on your way.  We have a special speaker coming, Chuck Bolger, our Council Commissioner, to talk about the changes, what it means to our district,  and help us with our re-charters.  PLEASE send at least 2 people from your unit to this Roundtable so we can help you get started.

At Roundtables, you can learn more about what is going on in our District, in our Council and with the BSA. All Leaders and Committee Members are encouraged to attend to learn about, and get help with planning your activities and meetings.  For example, Committee members can learn how to conduct Boards of Review according to BSA Guidelines. We will have Committee Challenge training there or arrange to come to your unit.  You can learn how to better support your unit! Scout Masters, Cub Masters - looking for new ideas for fun and new activities, how to deal with safety, planning, new camps? Come to Roundtable!

All Senior Patrol Leaders, Assistant Senior Patrol Leaders or Troop Scout Representatives should attend our special breakout session just for you!  You will learn what is going on in the District so you can inform your troop on what to expect and plan for!

Order of the Arrow members hold their monthly meetings during Roundtable - so OA members and Troop OA Representatives should plan to be there.

Parents who want to know what's going on, or maybe looking to offer assistance at an event should come see what's being planned.

Cub Scouting will be undergoing some major changes! The Cub Scout Program has been revamped - to debut in August/September 2015.  We will be offering special sessions to get you trained and aware of these new changes during Roundtable Cub Scout Breakout sessions. As many Cub Scout Leaders and Committee members as possible NEED to be there for these sessions!

The Cub Scout Promise and Law of the Pack convert to Scout oath and Scout Law in May, 2015.  We will prepare you for that also!

Venturing Crews have already converted to using the Scout Oath, Scout Law and Scout Sign.

At Roundtable you also get the opportunity to talk to your District Committee and Commissioners, as well as other Scouters about any concerns or questions you may have, and maybe get some great new ideas!

These are some of the reasons for everyone to attend Roundtable. The more you attend, the more help you get, the more ideas you get, the more you can learn! All this to enable you to do your part more easily and better!

I look forward to seeing you at Lafayette District Roundtables!

Merit Badge College, 2015-by Laurie Gibbons

We have confirmed the date for Merit Badge College 2015, and so this is the first call for counselors.

MBC 2015 will be January 31, 2015

Please let me know via email laf.merit.badge@gmail.com what badge/badges you would like to teach, so that I can begin building the schedule for the day.

Ask your scouts what badges they would like to have an opportunity to earn. IF we have requests, we can search for a qualified counselor, but I won't know who to search for if I don't know what the boys want.

PLEASE, don't hesitate to volunteer to teach just because you think that someone else always teaches a certain badge. I often have too many boys requesting to take a badge, and have to scramble to find enough help. Some counselors plan vacation cruises and aren't available on our selected weekend, so having a new face is exciting.

I will look forward to hearing from everyone during the upcoming weeks.

THANK YOU FOR SERVING THE YOUTH
2015 Recharter

Are you wondering why you are seeing this in August?  Well me too, but here it is-the new Recharter date for the Lafayette District is November 26, 2014.

While you absorb this, the professional Scouters at the Lafayette District are gearing up to help you through it.  So take a breath, keep the date in your head and make sure you hand in your applications as you get them this Fall.

More info will be distributed at upcoming Roundtables and via our volunteer Commissioner staff.

Fall Camporee, October 3-5 by Laurie Gibbons

The Fall Camporee will take place Oct. 3-5, 2014 at the Norristown Farm Park. Troop 752 is hard at work planning the event to honor our Hometown Heroes. This year's event will be limited to the first 100 youth that sign up, so we recommend submitting your intentions immediately.

October is National Fire Prevention Month, and the local fire companies will be providing you with hands-on opportunities to experience various methods of fire prevention and fire suppression. K-9 units will be on hand to demonstration search methods for missing persons and drug detection. Ambulance companies will also be there to share their knowledge and skills. The county Sheriff's Department has activities planned.

In addition, the Stoney Creek Anglers will have the creek stocked and scouts can work on their Fishing Merit Badge. Scouts aged 16+ will need to come with a PA Fishing License if they wish to participate in this activity. Poles will be provided for the day, but you may want to bring your own bait!

Please have your scout master email your intention to attend to: laf.camporee@gmail.com
