Scouting for Life Blood Drive

Service is part of the lifeblood of Scouting.

Here's a chance to give back in more ways than one.

Has your unit committed to promote the blood drive yet? It's easy and a great way to provide an invaluable service to the community. Plus, you'll be helping to save lives!

Every two seconds, a patient in the U.S. relies on blood and platelet donors for a fresh start. Just one Scout in your unit securing a blood donor commitment has the potential to save up to three lives!
For more details about the drive, including information about locations, local contacts, and incentives, please visit www.colbsa.org/blooddrive. A Unit Leader Guide, donor commitment cards and promotional posters are available to download. You may also contact your local district blood drive chair or district professional to get the materials you need to help promote the drive and help save lives!

Commit to Donate Blood

Give blood at one of our 11 drives in August or at any Red Cross Blood Drive from now until September.

New Blog

Visit AdventureForLife.org to check out the Cradle of Liberty Council's new blog. The intended audience for the blog is the community-at-large as well as existing Scouting members and families. It will serve as a platform to share compelling Scouting stories, service projects in our communities, research on the program's impact, and how we can help build stronger families.

Topics highlighted on the blog will be categorized into the following sections: Family Activities, Exceptional Kids, Community Service, Outdoor Adventures, Strong Leaders, and Scouting Around.

The blog is part of our continuing efforts to get the word out about Scouting and better communicate with the community and our membership. Another part of this effort will be to overhaul the content on the council's website over the summer and fall so information about topics specific to unit leaders--such as activities, training, advancement, camping, fundraising, and program resources--is concise, up-to-date and easy to find.

Please share your thoughts about the blog or content ideas at blog@colbsa.org.

Health & Safety Tip of the Month: Lighting Safety

The statistics are scary: Each year in the United States, an average of 53 people die from lightning strikes, and hundreds more are permanently injured. In 2013, there have been seven lightning deaths: two in Florida and Illinois and one each in Louisiana, Missouri, and Texas.

But remembering just five words could mean the difference between life and death: "When Thunder Roars, Go Indoors." Click here to read more.

Annual Health and Medical Record

The Boy Scouts of America updated the Annual Health and Medical Record in March and made some updates as to when different parts are required. Please review closely to ensure a safe and fun adventure this summer.

Online Merit Badge Counselor List

The Council Advancement Committee has been working for some time to make the list of registered Merit Badge Counselors available online to troop leadership so they can better support their Scouts in the Merit Badge Program.

The list of all registered Merit Badge Counselors has been posted under the advancement tab at www.colbsa.org

In accordance with BSA policy, the list is password protected. Scoutmasters and unit advancement chairs can get the user ID and password from their district advancement chairs, merit badge deans, or district professionals. If any errors are discovered, please notify your district advancement chair so he or she can work with you to register or reregister any individuals who should be listed.

Scouts who wish to reach out to a merit badge counselor should contact their Scoutmaster or Scoutmaster's designee within their troop, as prescribed in the BSA Advancement Guidelines.

2014 Adult Leader Training Requirements
